The case and stand were also nice. My problem is I ordered the one in the picture with the stand in the vottom of the curve and got the one that has the seperate wire stand. I'm guessing that it is ether the glue or lacquer that was used that is causing it. I will give this gift and let the recipient decide to keep or trash the box. So far I put several dryer sheets inside the box & the smell lessened slightly, but is still there. We have triplets and each of them play an instrument (clarinet, sax and violin). They each wanted to get the instrument they play for each of their dolls, so we ordered the violin from American Doll and since they don't make a sax or clarinet, we ordered those two from Amazon/Broadway.
