The only thing different about the soup bowl from the one made years ago is the extended handle on the older bowls. But that was changed years ago. When factory moved from England to China in 2003, they started making pieces with stamp on bottom saying England 1890.........somewhat misleading as that is when company started in England, but not where piece was made. **Q: Is the darker, predominant color in the pattern black, dark brown, dark green, gray or what?? Can't tell from the pictures. Thanks.** A: The colors vary. I have a set of the original made in England China. The colors were vivid and rich. On the China made dishes the colors are dull and not consistent. So long winded way of saying they are green gray and dull **Q: The description talks about a soup tureen, not a teapot. ALso how many cups does this teapot hold?** A: I use this teapot, and I can tell you that in teacup terms, it holds about 4-5 cups, but in terms of mugs, about 3-4. I have teapots of various sizes, and I often use this one when a lady or two comes for tea, but if more than that, I bring out an additional pot. Ebay has many different sellers you can buy the made in England dishes. Sellers post pictures of the dishes and usually one of the bottom of the plate which tells you if it's made in England. ALWAYS look at the stamp on the bottom. If it says dishwasher, microwave safe it is the new made in China. Some of the bottom stamps are brown with the mailbox and some are green. Most have either a little green or red wax mark on the bottom which look like little hash marks. The made in England are NOT dishwasher, micro safe. It's a tradeoff of convenience over beauty if you buy the made in China ones. The dishes were made in England until 2003 and it is worth buying these over the reproductions. There IS NO COMPARISON in terms of beauty. I started out with the new ones and traded them all in for the genuine made in England. They look SO incredibly different. Once I started replacing, I did it with all of the pieces. So I ordered a service for twelve with all the serving pieces. I think the only complaint that I have read is that the color is muted in some of the pieces but since I didn't have this growing up I can't make the comparison. The winter "snowing" dinner plates are just a slight bit less color than the rest of the pieces but I don't care, I love them anyway. I just ordered some other dinner plates that are different seasons, not just winter, so I can use the snowing dinner plate for fall and winter and the other plates that reflect other seasons all year.
