You probably are more concerned with the edition's editorial standards and the quality and consistency of the translation. The history of this project can be looked up elsewhere but I'll say to keep it brief: the point of this project (this volume and the whole Stanford collected works) has been to provide a consistent translation that holds true to the original German and avoids interpretive translation (a notorious problem for other N translations Kaufmann included). Things like always translating Trieb and Instinkt as drive and instinct (I think I may be wrong I'm relying on memory) ensure that you, as the English reader, know what specific terms Nietzsche was using. Furthermore, the thorough endnotes describing changes, underlines, previous notes, omissions, etc. from Nietzsche's notes are incredibly insightful for scholarly work. The only thing I could possibly imagine counting against this is I've heard it argued that these aren't as 'artistically lyrical' as others and some have said this is better for scholarly work but if you're just a light reader perhaps Kaufmann will be a more pleasurable read. I don't know how much I buy that. I find the consistency and assurance of knowing what exactly Nietzsche was referring to more helpful than lyrically interpretive translation but that's a call you'll have to make. Perhaps it'd matter more for works like Zarathustra rather than BGE and GM but I'm not certain. I'd recommend it immensely. I'll be opting for these over my Kaufmanns for the foreseeable future. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Now you can hear Nietzsche scream! *by O***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2014* This is a review of  The Complete Works of Friedrich Nietzsche, Vol. 8 (Beyond Good and Evil / On the Genealogy of Morality)  Adrian Del Caro (Translator). Martin Heidegger that Nietzsche had to scream to make himself heard. Andrea del Caro has done a superlative job in making Nietzsche audible to English ears. The text is highly readable, and Nietzsche is by turns outrageous, funny, profoundly original, bracing, and, well, just plain mind-blowing. I went back to On the Genealogy of Morality after reading Derrida's comments on in  The Death Penalty, Volume I (The Seminars of Jacques Derrida) . I am so happy to have been able to read this incredibly good translation. The Notes are extensive and extremely helpful. The Afterword is deeply learned and well-written. Above all, it is helpful. Some Amazon reviewers of other Nietzsche translations think that a good Nietzsche edition does not need a scholarly apparatus. I couldn't disagree more. Nieztsche wrote for "the few." He knew Greek and Latin. He read widely, and some books he read have fallen into oblivion. I thank Caro and Stanford University Press for working so hard to deliver an astonishingly illuminating and deeply engaging critical edition of these two important works. Stanford UP is publish English translations of all 15 volumes of the student version of the 46 volume, now standard German edition of G. Colli and M. Montinari. Often mistaken as the father of 'nazism'. Nothing could be further from the truth. If only this was the kind of book that teenagers and even scholars read. Adolf would be killed in his grave.
