Review: Avoid this headset. - I'm on about hour 12 of wrestling with this boat anchor. That's a dual metaphor as they are really only good for tethering a sea fairing vessel to the ocean floor and because they weigh about as much as an anchor should. Seriously, if you are prone to headaches or strain from head phones, these will incapacitate you in minutes. I've worn my Sennheiser Game Ones for three years without issue but these suckers had me taking a break within the first hour of use. I guess they got me to go outside more, so that is one pro. Anyway, I muscled through the vicegrip like strain and incredible mass of these puppies and powered them up. The setup is fairly straightforward with this hungry peripheral only needing two usb inputs to feed it. Every paid reviewer for this headset made sure to film their video with high powered studio lighting and never once switched them off. And why would you? These are just headphones, I don't care about the RGB nonsense on the side you door, stop nitpicking. Well if you switched the lights off you would notice that the included amp/controller is useless because THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT ILLUMINATE ANY WORDS OR EVEN INDICATE WHERE THE CONTROL ROTATING SELECTOR IS FACING. GOOD THING I NEVER PLAY WITH THE LIGHTS OFF. Then the real problems begin. 2.0 stereo sound on this is fairly decent. There is an average amount of bass with some decent highs, nothing that will transport you to another realm, but certainly enough for the average gamer to be wowed. if however you flick over to 7.1 and your balloon begins to deflate rapidly. Any sound propagation to the front of the headset sounds full of force and accuracy, the moment something comes in from the sides or rear however, and it sounds like you are listening to a pair of eaebuds a flight attendant just sold you for $14.99. I have never been more disappointed with a purchase in my brief existence on this planet. The subwoofer driver doesn't even bother to fire for sounds emanating from the rear. All you get is this tinny, underpowered 20mm driver, desperately trying to keep pace with the front and center channel. I honestly thought I had done something wrong in setting them up so I spent 3 hours fumbling through the driver software, forums, and support pages trying to get the best settings, hell even just acceptable settings. After finding no solution I attempted to post to their support forum for specific assistance. After registering and providing nearly every personal detail about myself their forms required and jumping through the registration confirmation email hoop, I attempted to make my first post. Guess what I wasn't allowed to do. That's right, you cant post on the Asus forums until you privately message a moderator and they grant you talking privilege. Holy Orwellian Hell. As of this review, my request is still unread. So, abandoned, neigh, excommunicated by this 'Republic of Gamers' I tried a bit more or tinkering with the settings. For laughs, I decided to activate my microphone to have my friends weigh in on its quality. They sat in disbelief that the sound I was making was truly coming from these nearly $300 pair of headphones. You can find at least five reviews right now on YouTube where some spineless sellouts ACTUALLY SPEAK INTO THE MICROPHONE AND THEN SAY THE QUALITY IS PRETTY GREAT. I swear people of desertcart, you have to listen to this microphone. It sounds like your yelling into a tin can tied to a greased up string filtered through a dogs intestinal tract. Their are no less than 20 pages with over 15,000 views on Asus' forums complaining about this microphone and Asus had the audacity to imply it was an isolated quality control issue despite EVERY registered owner on that forum, who by the way purchased from different areas and received products from different warehouses, reporting the exact same issue. Asus couldn't figure out the problem because they don't manufacture the headphones. They had to contact the third party vendor who didn't have any answers either. A brave or desperate man on the forums drilled a hole in the end of the microphone housing and Asus damn near offered him a job for his genius. That's right folks, they didn't put enough holes for all that voice to get into them fancy microphone things. Are you kidding me? $300 for these things and you still need me to do some light millwork on them? Is that covered in my warranty? Oh looks like you mined out your microphone from the plastic tomb we encased it in, sorry, we can't accept this in this condition. This honestly seems like some sharkish attempt at snatching up some money from the ever gullible gaming community. I mean, hey, they buy unfinished games, maybe they will buy unfinished headphones too. What a kick in the pants...
Review: Best headset I've ever owned. - Best headset I've ever owned. Sound is crystal clear and I have never been so imerssed in any game before. Playing games like Battlefield is better than ever before. Be sure to change your sound settings in game for headphones, surround though! Microphone is perfect. No distortion, everyone hears me clearly and no distortion of any kind. I did apply the newest firmware update as soon as I got the headset. So make sure you do that! It can be found on the asus website for the headset. Only nitpick is the stand. Of course it could be better being made out of plastic and all. And it will fall over from time to time when removing the headset. But it's a minor inconvenience really. Over all this is an astounding headset. Mine was made in May of 2018 so it comes with the revised microphone, keep that in mind that since 2017 the microphone has been reworked. So if you get an older version, contact asus and they will be more than happy to help sort it out.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Was it intended for the headset to look like an angry owl?**
A: Not the product designer here, just an owner. It does look like an angry owl. I'm just disappointed that somewhere between the previous version and this one they disabled the lighting effect. If I'm going to look like an angry owl, I would like to at least have illuminated eyes.

**Q: Is there a way to tell the battery percentage remaining?**
A: Yes, by turning off the headset. Then turning it back on an counting the numbers of blinks the LED on the headset makes before it stops. This tells you how much power is left. Read the manual provided to you in the box it comes in.

**Q: Does it work wirelessly with the ps4, or is that functionality just for the pc?I mean, use it through the dongle, not the joystick with the 3.5 mm plug**
A: Works great with ps4, just plug and play with the USB stick it comes with. I would recommend having a longer USB cable to charge the headset though.

**Q: Are they good for listening to music?**
A: YES they are great for music

### ⭐⭐ Big Sound Drivers Don't Matter
*by T***N on June 6, 2019*

I don’t always bother with reviews, but felt I had to speak to somebody like myself who may be considering this headset. What appealed to me so much about this headset was that it had 60mm drivers, for those who don’t know that is the size of the speaker itself. That is bigger than any other wireless headphones I could find. I also found on a site called that compares headset in this format A versus B where you enter the headphones, and it comes to the pluses and the minus of why a headset is better, they found this to be the best for its price. I checked all the other headsets, and I was looking for the best sound I wasn’t worried as much about the form factor or the build. I felt comfort was subjective because whatever headphones I looked at I found people who were complaining and saying they fit like a dream. Same goes for the sound. It was frustrating to rely on the reviews because they were so subjective. So, I was focusing on technical aspects. All the review sites seemed to have vague terms like good sounding nothing to differentiate one headset from the other. I have some terrible news these headphones sucked, in my opinion. I wish I could give you more technical details but couldn’t find any. So, what I’m about to say is my own opinion. The headset didn’t fit my head; I have a big head. The sound SUCKED, it was bass heavy, and all the frequencies seemed mushy and overpowered by the bass. I had to turn it up to turn the volume up to 100 to make it even a little bit loud. I play a lot of PUBG, and I’m listening for little sounds like footsteps. A lot of people think surround sound is a gimmick I don’t. It’s all in how it’s implemented, it’s true there isn’t true surround sound, all surround sound done by two speakers uses algorithms that trick the brain, but some work better than others. The surround sound on these headphones sucks mainly because the sound sucks, but even if the sound was good, I was unimpressed by the surround sound, my sound card does a better job at surround sound. Yes, I also have a great wired set of headphones. This is the second pair of wireless headphones I’ve bought so far. I should preface that I am coming from a high-end set of wired headphones, as far as good sound goes, I probably have unrealistic expectations for sound quality when it comes to these kinds of wireless headsets. Before these, I had the Logitech G533 which are A LOT better sounding than these but didn’t satisfy me because of my high expectations. I will be trying the SteelSeries Arctis 7 (2019 Edition) next and will update this review.
