I followed the directions and everything else was working fine, but no mist. The directions say to fill the mister with tap water to just below the red line. I did not see any 'red line' but the directions also said that it would be equal to 3/4 cup, so I put in 3/4 cup of water and added oils. No mist. I cleaned it out later on and replaced the water with the oils, but still no mist. I wrote to amazon and they gave me the number to call, which I did. I called and talked with a lady who explained that the directions weren't accurate. She told me to find the red thing sticking up, and make sure the water level is below that, not above it. I followed her directions and it worked! So, if you get stuck in the directions trying to figure out why no mist is coming out, it might be because your water level is too high. It needs to be below the red part of the water level pole. You could use it as a nightlight (although it will shut off after 4 hours). My son is fascinated by the colors but I like that you can shut them off and just use it that way too if you like a dark room. I've had it for nearly a year and have not had any problems with it at all. The only tip I have is to make sure you don't over fill it because it doesn't work if the water is too high. I thought it broke once because it wasn't working and then I dumped it (my husband had over filled it) and refilled it with less water and it worked fine right away.
