We had some other toy ones that didn't work in the same room as each other. We took them camping this year so that my little one could take one on her scooter so we could keep in touch. It was the first year we let her go around the campsite without supervision so these came in really handy. She had one, we had one and so it was fun, if she made friends with anyone else, they could have one too and keep in touch. The distance for transmission was surprisingly good. It kept clear for a good 300m with trees as the only real interface. This gave us peace of mind when it came to where she was. My only real issue was the build quality. After a drop of only a few feet, one of them started to play up with the press to talk button. This was the one we had so it was ok for us to use but would have been trick for younger fingers to press to make work. The product packaging was good and well presented. 3 wrist ropes came with the walkie talkies too. Batteries were not included. They take AAA batteries. The radio seems to support 8 of the 16 possible channels. Note the batteries needed are 4x AAA per radio… (not AA as stated elsewhere) **Q: Do these have secure channels so strangers can’t talk to kids?** A: Couldn’t say for sure but we’ve never had ‘interference’ when the girls are using them. Range is obviously a factor, they are no more than 50m from us on our walks and we hear them perfectly well. Someone would need to be reasonably close to try and tune into the radio frequency. There are also several channels so someone would need to be very persistent! Buy them! **Q: Are batteries secure with a screw? Cannot see a picture of the back of them.** A: No. The battery cover secures with a couple of tabs like a telly remote. It is pretty secure with a decent click as it slides into place. **Q: How do you use the hands free mode on these?** A: Honestly.. I have no idea at the moment. They are easy to use; even my little kid who was 5 could use his walkie-talkie easily. - These walkie-talkies are compact with belt clips and lanyard holes, so they should be secured in your hand. - You can change the channel and sub-channel. - They have a built-in flashlight. - The range is not as claimed which is understood as they usually report the best range in theoretical optimal operating conditions. However, the actual range considering our use case, was reasonable. - The battery consumption is not the best. - Price-wise, I got this item for around £24 which is cheaper than buying 2 Pack from other sellers on Amazon.
