The hinge is sturdy, the pot itself is well formed and faultless. The handle might get hot if you seep your tea with the gandle over the hotplate, so guess what, just move it slightly so the handle isn't near the heat source. The hinge and lid do get hot obviously however it doesn't get in the way of pouring.
