    Awsome Router

*by D***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2007*

I usually never buy a router from linksys, 1st one was a pain to setup, 3 years ago. Now when you buy this its does everything for you. Only a few settings and presto! Filtering works perfectly. Didnt pass any viruses or content that i blocked. (ie word filtering works perfectly) Blocks attackers from killing the router, Logs all the attacks and there ip address. Technology great. Firewall and Mimo wireless with a gigbit ethernet. What more can you ask for?? Upgrade firmware and signatures when purchasing it. When installing dont forget to release the ip from the old router and on the linksys dhcp renew. Many ppl forget about this. Other people say its bad, it probably they dont know what they are doing or just got a bad router from the site. Defiently worth the money. Got 1 for the business and one for home. This is a must have product.

    After initial replacement, completely satisfied

*by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2010*

I purchased this router after using a Linksys WRV54G for about 5 years. I was looking forward to upgrading to the gigabit switch of the WRVS4400n to replace the fast ethernet switch of my old WRV54G. It was a simple configuration, has plenty of security options, great speed (i'm not using 802.11n, only 802.11g so I can't comment on the speed of such a connection) and a strong signal strength throughout my home.Unfortunately, the unit purchased through Amazon would drop my connectivity for a very brief moment about each 10 minutes. If downloading files or using any UDP related application, my connection would drop. TCP oriented applications had no problem, but this caused me to drop VPN connections to work and file downloads would fail nearly 100% of the time. I verified that the issue was with the wireless router by performing the same operations when connected directly to my ISP's cable modem with no drops at all. Upgraded & downgraded the router's firmware (starting with a factory settings each time) with no change in the issue. I contacted Cisco and was asked to change my MTU setting...which did absolutely nothing. They were willing to replace my unit and shipped it next day to me and included a fully paid return label at their expense. They said I would most likely get a refurbished unit, though I did receive a new one judging on the packaging. Also I received a WRVS4400n v2 like the one I originally purchased from Amazon.Since the replacement, I am completely satisfied with this router and would not hesitate to recommend it. I also purchased a WAP4410n to boost the signal strength in my home, but haven't needed it honestly. I have the WRVS4400n in my basement and the WAP4410n on the first floor (colonial home about 2200 sq ft). After buying a Wifi scanning utility for my iPhone I determined my signal strength issues were really conflicting signals with neighbors networks. I was using the default channel 6 and had a bunch of others on 6 or overlapping channels in the area. Switching my router to channel 1 and the wap to channel 11 worked like a charm and I get fully signal strength anywhere in the house or yard now (1, 6 & 11 are the only 3 signals you should really be using as they don't conflict with each other).I have not experienced the issue with this router that others have repeatedly reported both here and on the Cisco forums, that being the wireless signal dropping and having to reboot the router often (daily from what I've read) to resolve the issue. I did experience this issue with my old WRV54G approximately on a monthly basis. So far I've had the WRVS4400n up for about 3 weeks with no wireless drops at all. Also, in case you're wondering, I'm using the latest firmware - 2.0.0.8.

Cisco should be embarrassed to sell this product!

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2011*

Cisco! Shame on you for not recalling this failure! I took a chance on this router reading all the reviews on here and I am embarrassed to have to write this review. I have looked for the perfect gigabit router and thought that since a lot of these reviews were old I'd take a chance on this one. Heck I have never bought anything but Cisco or Linksys so I should be able to get this router working... It has been hit or miss since I powered it up. I am not going to spend two hours typing up some major review because frankly I and not going to waste my time on it, this router is JUNK! I have a 24U Dell Rack with 4 PowerEdge Servers (2)2850's and (2)1850's and a Dell Gigabit switch, I know what I am doing with networks. RDP (Remote Desktop) works sometimes, network shares (Windows Server 2008 R2) work sometimes but CISCO these should work ALL THE TIME!!! Seriously move on, THIS IS NOT THE ROUTER YOUR LOOKING FOR.If I can find alternative firmware I am going to load that because it's junk for me and I am past the return time... I bought the router on February 10, 2011 and today is March 14th 2011.WRVS4400N = GARBAGEUPDATE: April 13 2011I have spent a lot of time working on this router and let me say right now, Cisco small business support gets all 5 stars! They have worked hard with me to get this router set up and working. It's more reliable than it was to start and I think the major downfall for this router is all the dam buttons in the admin area. I have a very small network here as noted above but I consider it a small business because that is what I have here. I am not a certified Cisco tech so it is taking some time to set this router up correctly for my network.I have given the router a few more stars in the areas that I think it's best at. This router is getting better for me and the only reason for that is the support that comes with the router. Thanks Cisco small business support, this router is back in full use here on my network.UPDATE: April 15 2011All the same problems still exist and I am putting the router on the shelve for now, it's just not acceptable for getting work done on the network. If DD-WRT ever creates firmware I'll flash it, if not it's going to sit on the shelf. Sorry Cisco Support but this router is a complete failure with the current firmware.
