He wanted to make things right and make sure my set of escapement files was not rusted. Topec shipped me a new set of files. As seen in my last video, they are free from rust or marks of any kind. I've reflected this new set in my rating. I want to like these escapement files. The small ones will be very useful for jewelry making. The larger, flat file seems to have some discoloration on it which I can only assume is rust. The larger triangular file shares a discoloration mark. I'm not sure what to make of these. The rest of the files are the quality you'll get for the price and will get the job done; good for a beginner jeweler like myself. The kit comes with a stiff brass brush for cleaning the files and four circular pieces of 240 grit sandpaper. I'm not sure the gloves will be useful β€” the files will rip them to shreds in a moment β€” but I'm sure I'll find a use for them. The gloves fit a woman's hand tightly, so those with larger hands might not be able to get them on. Overall, this kit has everything I want, but one thing I don't want: rust. With so many similar kits being sold, I can't say I'd recommend this one, but all the kits are probably coming out of the same two factories in China. Overall I'd say it's a good set especially for the very reasonable price point.
