Unfortunately the GP-1 CA10 cable is the weak link in what would be a great product.I've owned 2 GP-1 units for years and use them for times that I'm shooting with 2 cameras. I used to have 2 Wolverine GPS units but both simply stopped working after 12 - 18 months so I've had some experience with various GPS camera devices.Problem: The weakest point in the cable is the end that connects to the GP-1 unit. I have gone through 3 of these cables over a few years and they all break at the exact same point. It's a design flaw. If Nikon actually cared about this issue the solution would be simple: Make a durable swivel joint for this end of the cable or make the stiff cable material both durable and more flexible.This is a known problem that Nikon seems to ignore probably because it makes them money. Every time the cable breaks you have to buy a replacement.Recommendations: Until Nikon decides to rectify the cable problem the best way to save money is by not having to purchase replacement cables in the first place. Here are some things you can do to prolong the cable's life.1) I've learned the hard way that when you put your camera in a case do not leave the GP-1 CA10 cable attached to the GP-1 or the camera body. Remove the cable completely and store it in a separate pocket. Even in a well protected bag when the cable is attached it gets pushed and bent which ultimately leads to fraying and breakage.2) For those times when you need to use your hot shoe but still want to geotag make sure to use the Nikon 27005 GP-1 CL1 Camera Strap Clip.
