You get a conversion rack to convert a 3.5" Drive bay to a 2.5" drive rack. The SATA connection is offset to accommodate a more stable connection with the SATA and power cables. Besides, I do not use Apple machines and I do not work on them, so I do not know about Mac's thermal monitoring systems. For Windows and Linux machines, Linux machines will tell me all information in regard to my SSD and HDD state of health including temperature readings of SSD's. For Windows machines, Third Party programs will give temperature readings by way of the SATA data connection to the SSD's internal circuitry. I have no idea what Apple does on their machines. Either way, the SSD monitors its own operating temperatures. I have never needed or used a heat sensor on SSD's I use and used.
