I guess the idea is that you shift the short to center it on the breast that you want to feed with. The design just feels awkward. I didn't try nursing with it as I intend to return it. Unfortunate, the fabric seems nice and I like the range of colors this top is available in. It fits appropriately at the top ( not super tight, but not flowy or loose) and flares out around the belly area.
