Just right for my needs. Good response from whatever device I choose for data or streaming access, especially the two main computers of the household. I have 2 8TB RAID 1 mirrored drives (must buy separately) leaving two bays room for expansion. I back up the server on a 5 TB external hard drive connected directly to the NAS unit once a week. Mirrored drives are in case one drive fails you still have another online without skipping a beat. The external backup is in case something more drastic occurs and both drives are lost.I recently learned after purchasing the drive that QNAP is the recommended storage for my company as they also make professional rack storage devices. So this is sort of external verification of the research I did. I will say I am very please with the unit performance and functionally just what I was hoping to find.Although setup isn't that difficult, it was a little tricky to learn how to boot up mirror drive, since the NAS OS utilities need to go on the drive. I wiped out my first installation thinking it was on an internal SSD drive (like my home computers). The mirror drives will always assume the lowest capacity of the two drives, so when I mirrored the drives after installing the NAS utilities, the capacity of the two 8 TB drives (mirrored remember, so should only be 8 TB online anyway) was only 4 TB. When I started over formatting the hard drives installed, the installed NAS utilities were erased. It was easy enough to reinstall after learning you must mirror the drives first then install the utilities. Skip the snapshots as it will impact performance and take up some space on your drives. Love the confidence of having Raid Drives. Many nice apps and user licenses for video surveillance, Hyper Visor integration, Photos, Cloud, File sharing ETC.Wish it had the ability to upgrade features that it may not come with model but are on other models. Cant afford to buy them all. Service is oversees but has been able to assist with my questions responsibly and educate me on feature use. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Nice features in a worthless hardware drive bay- Lost all my data twice. *by B***N on Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2018* Purchased this just over two years ago. Ran fine for a while. Has some good features, such as the ability to open files remotely without copying them back to your computer. The instructions are dense and often less than helpful unless you are a computer geek (I am only half a geek). However after about 18 months one by one my 6TB Red drives started to fail. One by one they were replaced, reformatted.Purchased two more, just to be sure. Lost all my data (despite having a RAID6). Then they started to report drive failures again. One by one. Then the light went on: After several months i confirmed what i had suspected in the first place- that it was probably the QNAP that was corrupt. I had been in contact with them all along during the painful first part of this. They finally agreed it was the bay, so I sent it in (had to pay for shipping myself), took nearly three weeks turnaround between shipping it there, getting it fixed, and getting it returned (Report from QNAP was that they had to replace the motherboard and the back tray-essentially all the working parts). All in all about three months of down time. (Each drive took about a week or two for replacement even with the fast replacement option-this was WD's issue not QNAP's.)If this had been a business critical cloud drive, i would have lost my business in three months. However i only need it for storing huge amounts of data that i have accumulated regarding various pursuits. It took another several weeks to take data that had been partially restored from other drives and sort it out AGAIN. Work that i had already done when i set up the QNAP the first time. Had to redo it all over again, when it failed the second time as i had to find many of the files which had been copied over from original drives, or old backups. After doing this the second time, i purchased a WD4100, which is nice but lacks some of QNAP's software features (for example- in order to open a file, you must copy it back to your computer/laptop and then save it back to your cloud drive). Finally searched reviews and bought a Synology bay which so far (fingers crossed emoticon here) is working well, and has a reasonable set of features.I would also mention that despite some nice features, i was never able to get the one button USB drive copy feature working. If your drives are formatted the wrong way it will not work. Even having formatted them with various windoze based modes (I am a Mac guy) they still wouldn't work.To their credit, after sending them a note that it s**ks and i am trashing it for recycling, they offered to replace it with a new one.
