    Unusual love story....

*by A***N on Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2016*

3.0 stars. Wish the author had been more up front in the bk blurb about what this story was really about. With no advance warning of how totally over the top this one was, it almost lost me at the start with the H/Sebastian thinking of strangling or stabbing the h/Skylar. I mean, WTH, does that not sound like a bizarre opening to a romantic read?!?When it’s later explained that Sebastian's dysfunction is from OCD at least I had some sort of reference point (??? ok, nah, not so much) for the off the wall quirkiness. I know people that suffer from OCD and I’m no therapist but whoa….this was cray-cray OCD. Jack Nicholson in As Good as it Gets comes to mind which was so sad and maddening that it was sometimes funny. Didn’t find any humor in Sebastian’s illness. And this was illness.Lucky for Sebastian that beauty queen, reality star Skylar, his high school crush, is just the right amount of silly, immature innocence to handle Sebastian’s odd ways. There was something sweet in these two lonely souls finding each other but can’t say I really enjoyed it. Mostly just felt bad for poor ole screwed up Sebastian. Unusual read for the start of a series, can’t imagine where the author goes from here for bk 2.

The story of loving someone with OCD

*by R***L on Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2020*

Great read!...Not entirely unexpected seeing as it came from Melanie Harlow. The H in this one keeps to himself because he's struggling with OCD...until one day at the beach when he sees the girl he had a crush on in highschool. He knows he should stay away from her. What could she possibly see in a guy like him? What would he even have to offer a girl like her, except tears and sadness? He'd just mess up her life like he always does with women, so why even go there? But can he stay away? This one deals with some serious, and real issues. You kind of get a glimpse at what the world is like for someone struggling with severe OCD. And what a relationship may deal with when you fall in love with someone who has the disorder.Skylar is Sebastian's light in the darkness of his mind. She accepts him and all his idiosyncrasies. She loves him despite the extra work and headache that sometimes comes with being with him, because she sees him for the person he is. Not his disorder. As they get closer, and spend more time together, you come to see how she actually winds up helping to calm his mind at times by just being with him. Their chemistry together is off the charts. But can their relationship survive the thoughts raging inside his head?

    Definitely not your typical romance

*by I***G on Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2016*

This is the story of Skylar (h) and Sebastian (H).It can be read as a standalone (no cliffhangers). This is the first book I've read from Ms. Harlow.I bought this book back in June and finally got around to reading it a couple of weeks ago. I believe the blurb was different than what appears today on the book listing. To be completely honest, I still don't think either blurb accurately represents the story. I would have rated it higher had I known what I was getting into. (see spoiler below if interested)The story has its positives and if this is your kind of read, then definitely give it a chance.Sebastian is not your typical H. He's very complex, incredibly misunderstood, and has OCD. He had ticks and a boatload of issues. The only time he's not obsessing about something, is when he's having sex or thinking about it. So there's a hefty amount of heat, inner sex thoughts, and hand-lovin' in this story.Skylar is flaky and a little lost. She's gone through the bulk of her life on her good looks and charm and finally has to grow up after a reality show appearance causes more harm than good. Sebastian intrigues her. She's curious about the very tall and sexy guy. Sadly, I couldn't help but wonder if she would have actually cared about Sebastian had he not been so attractive. I initially didn't like her. At all. She seemed like a spoiled brat. She grew up a bit in the story and how she helped Sebastian with his issues helped changed my opinion of her. These two broken and very lost people somehow make it work and balance each other out. The attraction on h's side is very quick, almost a little too quick. But honestly, had it been any other type of personality, I'm not sure I would have bought the speed and intensity at which it happened. But for Skylar, it seemed plausible. Sebastian's attraction has built over a decade. Seeing his high school crush again after so many years throws his issues into overdrive which drives part of the story. The spoiler I list below made me uncomfortable, but I continued to push through because I could sense the fear he had at the thoughts running through his mind. I also sensed his protectiveness of Skylar and his desire to work through his issues. They wasn't a quick fix or easily resolved issues, but they found a way to "manage" them as people often do in real life.I did skim parts of the book where I felt the scene descriptions were a bit too descriptive (winery) without adding to the story's development. The story has the HEA ending and you can see how they've grown as a couple. (The plane scene was very cute.) But the discomfort I felt with parts of the story were difficult to put aside and sadly, did affect my overall feelings about this story.***This is a potential spoiler***This book should come with a warning. Reading the thoughts H had about choking h were jarring and appeared to come out of nowhere and made me wonder what the heck I had bought when I picked up this story (yes, I bought it, I didn't get it when it was offered as a free read). This wasn't a choking fetish, it was a choke-to-kill vision. There are reasons for it which are explained as the story progresses, but the initial appearance of it was unsettling and immediately dropped the rating of this book for me. And the way the choking is described (the words in the journal used by H) were almost poetic. So it didn't appear like the traumatic rambling of someone afraid of performing an act, it appeared more as someone with romantic ideations of choking to death another person. It would have made sense if I were reading a story about a serial killer or a thriller. Not a romance. Had I received fair warning there was some degree of darkness or mental heath issues or anything even remotely hinting to the fact that the character was dealing with his own demons or issues, I would have been prepared for this. I wasn't. And this made me uncomfortable. There was also a mention of stabbing.***end of potential spoiler***
