Persona 5: the Animation is an anime television series produced by CloverWorks, a Japanese animation studio and a rebrand of A1 Pictures, renowned for making popular amine series such as Fairy Tail, The Promised Neverland, and Darling in the Franxx. the Animation is based on an internationally acclaimed role-playing video game Persona 5 which has sold over 2 million copies worldwide and a combined 9 million copies across all series. This is a complete collection of material, giving fans detailed behind-the-scenes look at the developing artworks such as character profiles, props profiles, background designs and visual illustrations (including never-before-seen illustrations). Review: Artbook is great! (Damaged Book lol) - As an artist that heavily references the Persona style this art book was exactly what I was looking for. Great for anatomy construction of the style while the game books are focused on gesture/mood. Gotta learn how to walk before running. The book includes, character illustrations, design sheets, sketches, environments seen in the anime, and interview with the director. The environments is probably the highlight for me with each step in production noticable. I haven't fully read all the interview Q&A but one line from the book is a good start "that's right. They'd become something different" when asked if a line is left out when drawing the characters. I believe this is in relation to the hair drawn in the anime. On one hand I don't really think it's all that important to draw strands especially if it makes production harder as I find it difficult to see in the book on a still image for the darker hair characters. But the spirit to recreate the style is to be appreciated. Based on the cover art(I'm assuming it's drawn by the director) they recreated the style roughly well. But as a standalone illustration I would not be fooled that it was drawn by Soejima due to conflicting guidelines Soejima has for the Persona style when illustrating. No hate to the director they probably had to keep the style in tune with the animation. The book does NOT include, footnotes regarding the style or general notes that settai sheets would. The book doesn't scream "animators used this as reference during production" and feels more akin to a collage of artworks. Not a negative since it's unrealistic to ask of it as it is titled "artworks" not "settei sheet". Overall if you like the anime style then pick up the book. I didn't notice any bad pixelation as it all seem well printed. Based on the reviews each book will have some sort of damage unfortunately. The only down fall is that Amazon packaging may had have a tough delivery for my book but I didn't want to damage its reputation with this tiny dilemma.
