I have used all the big box brands forever and now that I am pregnant I needed to tone it down because I know I would not be able to handle the stench from the hair dyes I normally go to.I did some research and found this. Not perfect on chemical free but better than most. I put the hair dye on and much to my surprise, was not blasted with a horrible smell. I actually didnt smell much of anything, which was music to my super sensitive pregnancy nose!Much to my also surprise, this covered all of my grey hair, leaving nothing behind. That NEVER happens with multiple other brands. Usually I can find grey somewhere but this time, total, 100% coverage. I would definitely recommend this product if you have trouble covering and keep color in your dark hair. I got the 4C Ash and just love it.There area few downsides, one is that the time this stays in is longer than most other products, its 30 minutes.The other downside is my hair felt like straw when washing this out.
