Bachmann Trains THUNDER CHIEF - HO Scale Ready to Run Electric Train Set With Sound Value Equipped Locomotive - HO Scale. With the roar of its mighty motor and a blast of its horn, the Thunder Chief announces its arrival. Commanding the attention of one and all, there is no missing the excitement of the Thunder Chief storming into the station. Featuring a DCC sound-equipped F7-A with a diesel sound package that includes prototypical prime mover, three air horns, and bell-all in polyphonic 16-bit sound that you can control with our E-Z Command digital control system. This digitally controlled train set with sound features: DCC sound-equipped F7-A diesel locomotive, 40' box car, three-dome tank car, off-center caboose, E-Z Command Control Center with wall pack and plug-in wiring, body-mounted E-Z Mate couplers, 56" x 38" oval of snap-fit nickel silver E-Z Track including 12 pieces of curved track, 3 pieces of straight track, and 1 plug-in, terminal rerailer, illustrated instruction manual.

Review: Excellent DCC with Sound starter set - Great way to get into DCC trains! The sounds (bell, long horn blast, short horn blast, diesel motor) are very realistic, the engine starts out very slowly as in real life. I bought another DCC loco separately, and can run two at the same time on the same track, with completely separate control of each with the same controller. Note that in the manual it says you may operate one older style DC loco on your track powered with the controller that comes with the set, but I found this not to be so--my old locos got very bright and made a humming noise, so I quickly removed them. I phoned Bachmann and they confirmed that it's best not to try to run your old stock with this set (if you want to run your old trains on this track, you can always buy a DC controller, unplug the DCC controller and plug the DC controller into your rerailer instead--in fact, if you buy switches, as I did separately, an old style DC controller is very handy to be able to control the switches electrically). Apparently you can mix the DC and DCC on the same track sometimes, but not with my old stock--only one type at a time. By the way, the track that comes with this set is nickel-silver, which stays cleaner than steel and therefore should be less troublesome. This track works very nicely on a carpeted floor.

Great way to get into DCC trains! The sounds (bell, long horn blast, short horn blast, diesel motor) are very realistic, the engine starts out very slowly as in real life. I bought another DCC loco separately, and can run two at the same time on the same track, with completely separate control of each with the same controller. Note that in the manual it says you may operate one older style DC loco on your track powered with the controller that comes with the set, but I found this not to be so--my old locos got very bright and made a humming noise, so I quickly removed them. Great introduction to dcc . I mostly model o gauge but wanted to dip my feet into dcc ho scale. The locomotive is weighty and feels very sturdy the onboard sounds are very nice. The ez commander controler is very easy to learn to use and can also run dc locomotives with function 0. The cars are pretty basic but are well printed and roll well so no complaints. Overall a pretty good buy for someone wanting to get into dcc ho scale
