What I need is to stabilize and decrease motion of the thumb so it can rest and heal. My original injury used to be called a gamekeepers thumb (although my tendon is not avulsed). Since I believe in staying with name brands I tried this brace and one by Ace. Both are comfortable, both help remind me not to overuse the thumb, and both have stays, but this one allowed for more flexibility in adjusting the amount of support while still providing some thumb movement, but also really supports the wrist (necessary to adequately restrict the thumb). It also allows for more variation in how much support you create, but even in the looser adjustments still provides thumb support. This brace customizes its fit using velcro closures - 2 at the wrist and one over the thumb. This allows you to create a comfortable fit for the hand yet keep the thumb restricted. You don't need to tighten it way down over the hand (which squeezes the hand) to get the support you need. The stays used in this splint are long (extending from the wrist to over the thumb joint) and are shaped well to place the thumb in a natural but supported position. Compared to the Ace, this is a more robust device, provides much better support and will I think last longer thru washings and extended use. It is more bulky though. Getting over texting thumb requires stopping the use of your thumb for texting!!! No brace completely eliminates pain but this product is very good. It is easy to put on and take off and allows complete adjustment. The only negative I have is the amount of hook and loop use on the writ adjustment. After several days of taking it off and putting it back on, the hook and loop on the elastic wrist adjustment strap becomes a bit difficult to remove. To solve this I placed a bit of felt over the male portion so that not as mush was exposed to grip the strap. Did it seem to help?** A: I use mine mostly at night because it is designed to be fairly restrictive and when I wear if for say an hour or so during the day, then I can't do a lot of things with that hand. Be careful not to over tighten as it isn't necessary to get full benefit and may restrict blood flow to the very area that needs maximum circulation to help. Folks complaining about it hurting them and having to take it off half way through the night may just be wearing it too tightly as the objective is that it is comfortable and greatly restricts movement but not totally eliminate any movement. **Q: I have basal thumb arthritis and just started working out at a gym. Gripping and working with weights is painful in my thumbs. Will these help?** A: Hi, don't know if this will help you. It's my husband that wears these supports. He too has arthritis throughout his hand, carpal tunnel, chronic tennis elbow combined with shoulder problems. He's 65 and has worked as a mechanic for 50 years. He started developing severe pain about 4 to 5 years ago. He's been through cortisone shots galore but he still experienced hand (especially in the thumb/wrist area). The pain was worst when he used his high power air tools. I suggested wearing a support and found these at Amazon. I got one for him and he was so happy with it that he now has six of them (so he still has a couple when the rest are in the wash). He has told me that he has gotten considerable relief, even when using the air tools. He believes it is specifically because of the support he gets through the thumb/wrist area. I am not a doctor so cannot really comment if it will work for you when lifting weights. My only suggestion might be to purchase one (they're not that expensive) and see how it works for you. I not only would but it again I have bought it again. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best one so far *by H***R on April 8, 2026* This one works much better than the slightly different one that several other brands sell. Firstly it's made of better materials. Everything is properly stitched. Nothing is heat welded together. It also holds the thumb more stably than the other ones. The velcro is also good quality. The one flaw I find is that the wrist wrap attaches to itself and can lose tension, causing it to slide down your wrist. It would be more stable if it attached diagonally to a different part of the brace.
