Sometimes I think the bad reviews are written by the competition but that aside, this unit works very well. I went with the more expensive batteries and it has been working fine. I must clarify that I do live in Northern Florida so am not in the really cold weather. It has been down to the upper 20's but not for a long length of time so I cannot speak to those having problems in colder weather. Review: Good Quality - It's well made, and I suspect that for people living in a warmer clime it is a good value. Up here in Vermont the poor thing almost never gets to the major indicator (the Hunudex) since abut 45+ weeks of the years it is too cold. It was valid or two weeks last year. So, the biggest section of the "readout" is not valid in a cold climate. Had a bit of trouble getting the base and remote to synch at first - tried powering up the base first, then the remote, and couldn't synch. Then tried powering up the remote first and then the base, and they synched up right away.
