As usual I have never been disappointed in any product sold by Titan Paracord and this ferrocerium first starting rod is no exception. This rod should last a lifetime that is if you don't lose it but that would be hard to do just because of the size of it. Throws good spark and if you're familiar with this method of fire starting this will get the job done for you. The well done survivorcord lanyard is just a added plus with its enclosed wire, fishing line, waxed fire starting jute and the cordage of high quality 550 paracord. The whistle on the end of the lanyard may not be the loudest survival whistle out there and as this was not the reason I purchased this ferro rod in the first place it really doesn't matter to me. Also maybe Titan could start using their bright orange survivorcord for the lanyard so as to aid in locating the rod in case you should drop it. Losing your method of starting a fire could be a life or death situation in some survival instances. This is the 2nd time I have reviewed a Titan product. When I was looking to replace the para-cord I had on my gear I came across the TITAN Survivor Cord and bought a 100ft of it. Next was the TITAN Para-cord Bracelet. I took that out for a 8hr hike\camp and tore it down and used the para-cord and the sturdy clasp to set up camp help start a fire/cook some crayfish and purify water.For the TITAN SurvivorSteel and survival para-cord with the waxed jute, wire and fishing line I took a knife my survival fishing kit a space blanket, 3ml trash bag and tarp along for a overnight down by the river. Its a nice 650 acre track of State land that runs the river bank. I was dropped off on Saturday morning found my spot for camp and got to it. I tore down the para-cord on the FireSteel and replaced it with a single strand loop to attach to my belt. I gathered some tinder pulled out about a 5in piece of the waxed jute un-frayed it and formed it into a small birds nest. With most any new FireSteel you need to strike it a few times to expose the Ferocium to create the spark, and does this ½in rod ever throws out a spark! Two hits and I had the Jute burning and a sustained fire a minute later. I like the concept of having a easily ignitable tinder attached to a fire starter. I also like the size, it servers both as an excellent source of sparks and the length is long enough to be used as a handle. Next was to use the nylon strings to help construct my lean-to. Plenty enough to set my ridge pole and reflector blanket with several feet left over. I then went down to the river bank and looked for some bait. There I found a half eaten Steel-head hung-up in the branches of a downed tree. About 4 days ago the river was up a good 18-24in.The fish was to far gone to eat but not for catching crayfish and suckers. By law I can only have two lines in the water when fishing so I set my largest sinker for the suckers in the current and my other line in a small pool that looked good for the crayfish. My only concern was that the 30lb fishing line would be scene and nothing would bite. That was not the case I caught 3 crawdads and one 2lb sucker. I then used the wire to string up the sucker to clean and then to roast over the fire. The crayfish I boiled using the string and wire again to hold the 22oz empty beer can I found. I used the string to build a pot hanger and the wire to create a handle through some holes in the can. I like having the option of the wire for projects that require some heat resistance. I like the execution of this FireSteel with their para-cord. Add a knife to that mix and some basic bush-crafting and you have the tools to help you make it through a tough situation in order to be found or walkout or just for a nice overnight on the river bank. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product. Not worth the cost of the extra features. *by T***2 on Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2018* Great Ferro Rod, would rather pay less for just some regular 550 paracord on it... it’s a very nice product, but not worth the extra expense for the bells and whistles imho. I like this Ferro Rod a lot though. I’ve used it countless times, and is a reliable fire starter, though, I’ve bought some cheaper ones, and honestly, they work fine too. If you can get one $10 cheaper that’s drilled, just tie on your own lanyard. EricX Light, I believe is the brand I bought for my girlfriend and a friend of mine. Works just as well, and I think I got 2 for $10 less than this.
