I also enjoy riding in the wintertime in cold weather. I don't mind riding in temperature that drop below freezing, but that means I must wear very high quality bicycle clothing, including a very expensive Gore-Tex bike jacket. I found an outstanding bike jacket on sale, but it was black. One must be seen while riding a bike with-traffic. I have looked and tried all kinds of vests, but they don't fit over a bike jacket easily. They restrict movement, bind, don't breathe, trap sweat, and are difficult to get on over a jacket. I got this to be seen, and I certainly am. I can hear drivers take their foot off the accelerator as soon as they see me from a good distance behind. This vest is exceptionally bright, and I have far less problems with difficult and aggressive drivers while wearing it. It's strong, very well-made, easy to get on and off, is very adjustable, but lightweight enough to not add too much weight for bicycle riding. I feel much more safe with it on, and I sometimes find myself riding along the berm of heavily traveled roads with a lot of traffic passing me. It's often not the driver of the first vehicle that doesn't see a bicyclist, it's the driver or drivers following in a line who may not be able to see around the vehicle or vehicles in front. No doubt about it, no one would miss seeing me in this. For me, it's a required piece of clothing for winter bicycle riding on roads with traffic. It may not have been designed for bicycling, but this is the perfect sash for my purposes. Also, they will fold up and easily fit into a backpack or purse. My family walks in the early morning and this time of year it is dark - my children have to walk over a mile to the bus stop and so this keeps them visible to early morning drivers who are in a hurry or sipping their coffee and not paying attention. At first the kids thought it was "not cool" to wear them, but their friends all thought they were "neat" so now that is not a problem.
