I have not tried protected-WMA files.FOR AUDIOBOOKS:> Folders play in the order loaded. Tracks (within folders) play in alpha-numeric order. So, if your audiobook is in multiple folders (as it will be if ripped from CDs using Mediaplayer), then load the folders, one-at-a-time in the order you want them to play. The tracks within each folder will play in the proper order.> If you stop play, turn off the player and restart, the player restarts where you left off--perfect for audiobooks (oddly this feature is NOT available on most other MP3 players).> Plays MP3 and WMA files. Most have built-in batteries that just don't last. The iRULU was an unexpected find - great sound (use good ear buds, the ones supplied don't do justice to the player) and easy to load files/create folders. And all that for such a low price (check out the pricey competition, which is limited to expensive equipment with no option for changing the short lived rechargeable batteries.Main Pro's:Convenient rechargeable AAA batteries, last at least 15 hours (yes, the Sanyo Eneloop are great; I also use Rayovac hybrids)Although the instructions were not precise it was easy to figure out how to use this player (ACCDepot were extremely responsive; sent a 23 page manual after I bought the iRULU). Don't be afraid to PLAY with this, it's funWell constructed - I disagree with those who refer to this as cheap plastic; it has a nice velvety texture with good grip; feels solidUSB connectivity is so simple; drop and drag music files is a real plus (again, better than the finicky Sandisk Sansa I have)Instead of playlists I make folders (same thing really) and can select which ones I want to play by doing the following: pause the music, press the mode button to highlight files, press again and navigate through the folders by pressing/levering the mode burtton; when selecting folder, hold down the mode button for a few seconds and the music will appearCon'sAlthough indicated, it does not shuffle music beyond a few repeated loops (ACCDepot is looking into this since some users have complained)Wma files did not play well, for some reason; I converted all my music to MP3 which solved the problem (others say that wma files play just fine)In summary, a great versatile player that is cheap but not nasty.
