They'll definitely protect the paint on the door, especially if you actually use your Jeep as intended and spend a lot of time taking the top on and off! I was hesitant to take the top off before I had these guards, as I had to stand directly on the rear door jambs in hard-soled shoes and didn't want to scratch my week-old car! Don't have to worry about that anymore! I just installed these, so I can't speak to the longevity of the adhesive, but it seemed very substantial and strong when I applied it to my door. The opening and closing of the doors are not affected in any way.
