You can mirror or extend the lapscreen to 1 monitor by using HDMI port or DisplayPort ( HDMI and Displayport cannot work simultaneously). **Q: Does this need to be wired to the router, or can it run off of the surface internet connection?** A: It provides the ability to connect to a router using an Ethernet cable to provide the Surface with an Internet Connection if you cannot connect wirelessly. It doesn’t β€˜need’ to be connected to a router. All other ports will function without it being connected to a router. But I did not realise it is powered and there is a cable / transformer to plug in. Also cable slots are in both sides so it doesn't sit nicely on the desk - it's a bit messy.It has however given me 3 usb ports and an HDMI slot which is why I bought it.So it does what it says on the tin, but isn't particularly sleek on your desk!I felt the ones that sit on the side of the surface looked heavy however - which is why I chose this one.
