### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The end

Last part of this long running series, glad it's done. worth it.

### ⭐⭐ All that build-up for no payoff
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 16 August 2019*

After 18 volumes of this series, it finally comes to a close - and one of the namesakes ONLY gets a namedrop in this final volume. You don't ever get to see the Evangelions. To top it off this love triangle thing goes right to the end, with Shinji out-Keitaroing Keitaro from Love Hina right to the end as well. As if that weren't bad enough, we retread the 'character forgets everything but regains their memories with the help of their friends' story from earlier in the series.A thoroughly disappointing finale for a series that has been a let-down for a while.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The End of Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project
*by on Reviewed in the United States 30 July 2020*

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, the final book. We are finally here! The conclusion, to the longest-running manga based on Evangelion, finishing with 18 volumes. Let's get in the robot and blow the whistle on the entire series. Well, there are not robots to get into as this is an Alternative universe based on vision Shinji saw in the final episode of the Anime. It is also a Playstation 2 Visual Novel of the same name, which the manga was adapting as its template. Yep, we get a slice of life featuring the characters from Evangelion we got Asuka playing the childhood friend and Rei as the distance family member from his mother's side. In the love triangle of who would Shinji pick and be the best girl? Well, he doesn't pick anybody, and it just ends with them being the three BFFs, I guess?. Disappointing to say given how in the volume it looked like he was going to pick Rei, but it just didn't happen. They didn't leave a vague answer of him picking someone. Nope! Nothing! They took the path of least resistance with them being all together, and it was really about the memories we made along the way.As for the rest of the series, besides the main romance plot. It is a series of chapters starting all your favorite anime tropes. We have all of it, the beach episodes, the fireworks festival, the school competitions, the camping trip to the mountain, and even the references to the original Evangelion through battles in the simulation. New characters and characters that were dead in the original have come back from the dead like both Shinji's mom and Asuka's mom. A harem of Shinji simps who are just there to make Shinji look like a Chad. A new comedic Gendo who is plotting and scheming on how to be the father of the year. There is no overall plot; it's just tropes and fanservice much fanservice as Shinji is always an accidental pervert, that's the running gag of the entire series. Shinji slips, tumbles, or gets pushed and like a magnet right on the girls. Add even more fanservice to that, and we have the Shinki Ikari Raising Project. There was a Steele conspiracy teased from the first volume and the whole artificial human project. Still, those didn't matter. The Steele conspiracy was a nothing burger, and the social project also didn't mean much as it was all Shinji's happiness the entire time. A missed opportunity as Evangelion usually gets meta, but at the end of the day, this isn't what the series is.The manga is just plain fun from start to finish. As long as you don't take it seriously, even the manga itself doesn't by taking potshots at itself in fourth-wall-breaking humor. Go along for the Persona 4 Golden style anime events; then, this is a fun series. You've seen these characters suffer and go through hell. Now to see them catch a break is refreshing, and that's what makes this series work. You see this in the art when in the beginning, they had the anime art style, but as the volumes went on and the manga became its own thing, it evolved into its form. I laughed from beginning to end, and while towards the end, the manga felt like it needed to wrap up when they started to recycle events. It's still was an enjoyable manga even at it's laziest. Neon Genesis Evangelion The Shinji Ikari Project is the longest-running manga series of Evangelion, and while it is just anime schlock, it's anime schlock with Evangelion characters.Say no more I'm in. Unless you're a Karou Stan than this manga does him dirty, he simps for Shinji early on and pretty much disappears from the entire manga. I'm not even a considerable Karou fan, and I also felt like the homeboy was done dirty. Despite that, I still recommend the series it's fun; it's lighthearted. It's pretty much the opposite of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and they still manage to make it work. Phenomenal.
