Review: Excellent purchase! - I was just searching thru my purchase history for something unrelated, but this popped up and I realized I have never left a review. We installed this a full 7 years ago, and it is still working perfectly. I think we've only changed the batteries one time. We live in the country and having this alarm installed gives us peace of mind (that plus two large, loud dogs). Would highly recommend this brand. Fun fact: lightning storms often trigger it, which is kind of fun and hasn't hurt performance in any way. Nor have the sub-zero winter conditions we have here. Review: Driveway Alarm that Works - I've purchased 2 of the passive IR driveway sensors over the last 5 yrs. They eventually stopped working; would no longer pair. Also, MANY false alarms: deer, raccoons, even spiders would set the damn things off. If you're looking for a driveway alarm that alerts when cars approach, get this. It's more expensive and a bit more work to install, but you buy once, cry once. Follow the instructions and bury the sensor parallel to the road. Not perpendicular; one of the images I've seen shows the wrong orientation. Bury it at the proper depth and orientation and the thing just works. ## Features - AUTO-DETECTS MOVING VEHICLES - Dakota Alert DCPA-4000 System consists of a 50' direct burial cable and DCPT-4000 transmitter that detects any moving metal vehicles that drive near the metal detecting probe. - RECEIVE ALERTS OF INCOMING CARS IMMEDIATELY - The DCPT-4000 will send a wireless signal to the receiver, which will emit a chime when the transmitter detects any vehicle. - NEVER SENDS FALSE ALERTS - The probe only detects vehicles passing nearby. Strong winds or large animals won't trigger the transmitter's alarm. - IDEAL FOR MONITORING DRIVEWAYS - The metal sensing probe detects passing cars within about 10~12 feet. Plus, the transmitter can send signals even if the DCR-4000 receiver is about 1 mile away. - WEATHER RESISTANT FOR OUTDOORS - The DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter is weatherproof and can withstand temperatures from -30 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B07PDZPF31 | | Best Sellers Rank | #2,327 in Home Security Systems | | Brand | Dakota Alert | | Color | gray | | Compatible Devices | Smart Home Security Systems | | Control Method | Remote | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 221 Reviews | | Item Dimensions | 13.4 x 8.55 x 4.9 inches | | Item Weight | 18.14 g | | Item dimensions L x W x H | 13.4 x 8.55 x 4.9 inches | | Manufacturer | Dakota Alert | | Maximum Range | 50 feet | | Mfr Part Number | 1 | | Model Number | DCPA-4000 | | Power Source | Battery Powered | | UPC | 891179000768 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | | Voltage | 12 volts | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Dakota Alert - **Color:** White - **Compatible Devices:** Dakota Alert 4000 series receivers - **Item dimensions L x W x H:** 9.1 x 9.1 x 9.1 inches - **Power Source:** Battery Powered ## Images ![Dakota Alert Wireless Driveway Alarm System DCPA-4000 One Mile Wireless Range, DCR-4000 Receiver & DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter with Direct Burial Cable | Outdoor Vehicle Sensor Alarm - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61-jdSdZHFL.jpg) ![Dakota Alert Wireless Driveway Alarm System DCPA-4000 One Mile Wireless Range, DCR-4000 Receiver & DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter with Direct Burial Cable | Outdoor Vehicle Sensor Alarm - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81pKvfA3X8L.jpg) ![Dakota Alert Wireless Driveway Alarm System DCPA-4000 One Mile Wireless Range, DCR-4000 Receiver & DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter with Direct Burial Cable | Outdoor Vehicle Sensor Alarm - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71aRrGHxOxL.jpg) ![Dakota Alert Wireless Driveway Alarm System DCPA-4000 One Mile Wireless Range, DCR-4000 Receiver & DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter with Direct Burial Cable | Outdoor Vehicle Sensor Alarm - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/7139xduHinL.jpg) ![Dakota Alert Wireless Driveway Alarm System DCPA-4000 One Mile Wireless Range, DCR-4000 Receiver & DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter with Direct Burial Cable | Outdoor Vehicle Sensor Alarm - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81j3F+WAvKL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: I am going to have a gravel driveway paved. Would there be any advantage or disadvantage of installing the sensor wire under the pavement beforehand?** A: Before paving, I buried a thick walled pvc pipe across the driveway so that the ends of the pipe went beyond the edge of the driveway and were accessible. After, they paved the driveway, I fed the sensor into the pipe using a pole marked so I knew when to stop pushing leaving the sensor midway in the driveway. I adjusted the sensitivity and it works great and if I ever have to replace or repair it, I can simply slide it out of the pipe. **Q: Can you hook up an additonal audio alert in a differnt location from the receiver?** A: Yes, you can have multiple senders and receivers ( w multiple alert sounds too) **Q: Can the probe be located in a way tht only incoming vehicles are detected?** A: The probe detects vehicles up to about 10 feet (3m) away. You can learn more on how to position the transmitter at [http://dakotaalert.com/kcmsLite/assets/docs/DCPT_4000.pdf]. **Q: Is the receiver compatible with google home?** A: No, the DCR-4000 Receiver is only compatible with Dakota Alert BBT-4000, DCHT-4000, DCMT-4000, DCPT-4000, and UT-4000 Transmitters. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent purchase! *by C***E on September 25, 2026* I was just searching thru my purchase history for something unrelated, but this popped up and I realized I have never left a review. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works nicely 200 yards through the woods *by A***R on September 20, 2021* I purchased this two months ago and waited to write a review until I was convinced that it would work for my needs. On the pro side, it works nicely even transmitting through a wooded area. I took the photo standing next to the transmitter that is mounted on a tree by the driveway. It is approximately 200yd from the receiver mounted in a window (blocked from view by trees) in the center of the photo. The sensor is another 50 ft up the driveway. The receiver notification melodies are also very nice. Since adjusting sensitivity I get zero false alarms and zero misses for the last 6 weeks. It will even signal when I drive by on my ATV. On the con side, be prepared to dig a 50ft trench to bury the cable to the sensor. In my case I had to dig the trench twice. The first sensor placement was on a curve in the lane which resulted in unreliable sensing of passing cars. Since moving it further up the lane, it’s been very good at all notifications. Addendum: We have had this alarm now in Wisconsin for 20 months now and it has performed flawlessly. It is still on the original batteries. Last week we had a ice storm that took down several trees on the driveway, including the tree on which the transmitter was mounted. I contacted the Dakota Alert company and they were very helpful in providing a replacement transmitter at a reasonable price. Very happy with the purchase from a great company. ## Frequently Bought Together - Dakota Alert Wireless Driveway Alarm System DCPA-4000 One Mile Wireless Range, DCR-4000 Receiver & DCPT-4000 Vehicle Detecting Probe Transmitter with Direct Burial Cable | Outdoor Vehicle Sensor Alarm - Dakota Alert Wireless Receiver- DCR-4000 Up to 1 Mile Operating Range - Compatible with All Dakota Alert 4000 Series Sensors: SBB-4000, DCHT-4000, DCMT-4000, DCPT-4000, and UT-4000 Transmitters - Dakota Alert Wireless Doorbell - UTDCR-4000 One Mile Long Range Wireless Door Bell 4000ft, Doorbell, Panic Button, Mailbox Alert System, Universal Transmitter & DCR-4000 Wireless Receiver --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/132154909-dakota-alert-wireless-driveway-alarm-system-dcpa-4000-one-mile](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/132154909-dakota-alert-wireless-driveway-alarm-system-dcpa-4000-one-mile) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-27*
