One side is just a bit scratchy, without being to harsh, so it's perfect for exfoliating dead skin. It's size is also wonderful. It is a bit larger than the "poofy" bath things made from mesh, but not so large as to be clumsy to use. I am a large guy with big hands, so I really love that it doesn't feel like I bathing with a tiny cotton ball. For an average sized person, I think it's just large enough to feel luxurious, without being too large and clumsy to use.The sponge sucks up lots of water, so it doesn't dry quickly, so I'd be cautious about using them daily without laundering. It would likely mildew and grow germs if you tried to let it air dry between uses like a bath brush. Since they are very affordable, I'm planning to order more and treat them like a washcloth and launder them between uses.
