This electronic resistor is essential. It replaces any mechanical or electronic doorbell and makes this (alternate) configuration work successfully. Ring also advise that wires should be soldered onto the resistor and a wire clip can be used on the other end. This unit is a waste of money and is potentially dangerous -- especially as the resister isn't installed. That's not acceptable. The seller's description of functionality purpose and suitability is inaccurate if not potentially dangerous. This transformer should not be marketed as appropriate for Ring doorbell.
