The antenna transmits on VHF and UHF with no counterpoise rat tail wire needed. The SWR measures 1.0:1 to 1.3:1 across both the UHF and VHF bands and I got excellent signal reports on both repeaters and SSB 2m and 70cm. This is absolutely the soultion I have been looking for when I am out portable. I bought a TV antenna mask for approximately $18 that mounts to the side of my house. I then purchased a SO-239 3/8 mount attach that to the TV mast and mount the antenna on the SO/239. If you're looking for a better quality antenna that's all stainless steel comes with a mast and 32 ft of coax cable has a wider transmit receive range with center loads built in as I have recently purchased and it is a much better performing antenna check this one out much easier to mount as well. However, this antenna isn't designed for mast mounting. You can see slight machine marks, very minor. Went together very easy and all threads was good. I was careful when i tighten so not to strip, seemed good. The UHF mount fit good with no issues. Have not mounted up on pole yet, it is clamped to the top rail on a chain link fence. So far it is picking up good on my scanner, have not tried to transmit and SWR check yet. Will come back later and update.
