Still not sure if that was the torque converter or what. During the following year I had to change the external (Saturn) filter a couple of times because of harsh shifts. I can only conclude that the filters got loaded up with junk that the flushing agent caused to come loose, thereby restricting fluid pressure. Transmission works beautiful ever since. I know that fluid has to be changed regularly and flushing done on occasion, so I keep buying this stuff. Regarding the specific use, I think that the instructions on the containers are very clear and don't need further elaboration. I will say that I go further in an attempt to replace close to 100% of the transmission fluid. This is not easy since most transmissions (as you probably know) don't allow you to drain the torque converter and thus that fluid stays in there when you drain the case. The "answer" is to drain-refill-drive and then repeat that process three times. This, depending on the volumes of your specific AT, will get you to around 90% new fluid.
