My "kids" (ages 19, 20 and 28) have been using original Game Cube controllers with our classic Wii, and they report that the button mappings differ (didn't take them long to adjust) and that they feel a little light. This is because these are not force feedback controllers, and don't include motors with offset weights inside. Plugging this controller into the Wii remote (which is how they work - like a nun chuck) and not being tethered to the console is great.
