### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Some of the best sardines I have eaten.
*by on Reviewed in the United States January 5, 2026*

These are absolutely the best sardines I have ever eaten at this price point-$34.99 delivered for 12 cans, under $3.00 per can.My impression of these sardines is mild, firm, and fresh. They taste like the company cares about packaging a high quality product. The taste of the mild white flesh part of the sardine is the dominant flavor. I could not really taste the skin, bones, scales. The tomato sauce enhances the flavor-the tomato sauce is mild and does not cover up the taste of the sardines. I’d also say these sardines are less oily than some.I recommend these sardines for anyone wanting to try sardines, or that has had a bad experience with grocery store sardines. There is no fishy flavor at all in these sardines. Just a nice sardine flavor.I was a bit taken aback when the first can had a lot of scales. I ate them and the flavor was unaffected. The scales could be easily pushed aside. I tried a second can (pictured) and it had only a few scales.I appreciate that the cans are full of sardines-I am not paying for a lot of extra tomato sauce or olive oil. The cans are labeled 4.2 ounces. I think there is more than 4 ounces of fish in each can, with the minimum tomato sauce required to coat the fish.I have read that many different species of fish are labeled “sardine”. I appreciate that the species of fish is labeled on the box-see photos.I look forward to visiting Portugal again in 3 months and enjoying the world’s best sardines. I am also interested in whether my opinion of these remains the same after a week in Portugal. In summary, I recommend these sardines for someone wanting a mild, “pure” flavor. I recognize that some people may prefer a stronger, more fishy taste.Enjoy. Please post your reviews so I can read different opinions.Edit. Four cans in now. Two sardines in three of the cans. One can had three sardines. None have had as many scales as the first can. The scales float next to the large end of the sardine and could easily be flicked off. I don’t bother. Still happy with these.

🐟 🍽️ 🐠 DISHES YOU CAN MAKE WITH CANNED SARDINESCanned sardines are a pantry MVP Sardines are packed with protein + omega-3s, and they take on flavor like a champ. Here are dishes you can make with them, from 2-minute snacks to full meals:🍞 QUICK SNACKS & TOASTS:(under 5 min) • Sardines on toast: Mashed sardines + lemon juice + chili flakes + olive oil on sourdough.Add sliced tomato or avocado.🍪 MEDITERRANEAN CRACKERS: Sardines + crumbled feta + diced cucumber + olives + drizzle of red wine vinegar.🍚🔥 SPICY MAYO RICE BOWL:Warm rice + sardines + mayo + sriracha + sesame seeds + nori strips. Pasta & grains • Sicilian pasta con le sarde: Classic — sardines, sautéed onion, garlic, fennel or fennel seeds, raisins, pine nuts, breadcrumbs, tossed with spaghetti.🍝 LEMON-GARLIC SARDINE LINGUINE: Olive oil, garlic, chili, lemon zest, sardines, parsley, pasta water to emulsify. 15 min total.🍚 SARDINE FRIED RICE:Day-old rice + ginger + garlic + soy sauce + peas + sardines broken up. Squeeze lime at the end.🐟 SARDINE PUTTANESCA:Add sardines to the usual tomato + capers + olives + anchovy mix.The sardines melt in and make it richer.🍝 SPAGHETTI OR PASTA DISHES-Canned sardines work really well in pasta dishes. They’re actually a classic ingredient in Mediterranean and Portuguese-style cooking.-The key is that sardines bring rich, salty, umami flavor, almost like anchovies but a bit meatier and less sharp, so they pair best with simple, bold ingredients.🍝 WHY THEY WORK IN PASTA🪔 OIL-BASED SAUCE FRIENDLY: Most canned sardines come packed in olive oil, which becomes part of the sauce.👅 STRONG FLAVOR = no need for heavy sauces: They replace meat or even cheese in many recipes.⏰ FAST COOKING: You can build a full pasta dish in under 15 minutes.🍝 BEST PASTA PAIRINGS✨ Garlic + olive oil + chili flakes (classic “aglio e olio” style)✨ Tomato sauce (especially with onions and capers)✨ Lemon + parsley + olive oil (lighter, fresher style)✨ Olive + anchovy-style flavor builds (Mediterranean vibe)🍽️ QUICK EXAMPLE RECIPE(simple and really good)-Sauté garlic in olive oilAdd chili flakes (optional)Add drained canned sardines (break them gently, or leave in chunks)Add cooked pasta + a splash of pasta waterFinish with lemon juice, parsley, black pepper🪄 OPTIONAL UPGRADES:*Capers for briny punch*Cherry tomatoes for sweetnessBreadcrumbs toasted in olive oil for crunch*Parmesan or pecorino cheese(If you like strong savory combinations)🥗 SALADS & BOWLS :Niçoise-ish salad: Green beans, boiled potatoes, cherry tomatoes, olives, hard-boiled egg, sardines, Dijon vinaigrette. • White bean & sardine salad: Canned cannellini beans + sardines + red onion + parsley + lemon + good olive oil. No cooking.🥣🌾 MEDITERRANEAN CHICKPEA BOWL: Chickpeas + cucumber + tomato + red onion + sardines + tzatziki or tahini sauce. Hearty mains •🐟 SARDINE FISH CAKES:Mashed sardines + mashed potato or breadcrumbs + egg + herbs + lemon zest. Pan-fry till crispy. Serve with aioli.🇵🇹 PORTUGUESE SARDINE RICE: Tomato-based rice cooked with bell pepper, onion, garlic, paprika, then flaked sardines stirred in at the end.🌮 SARDINE TACOS:Warm tortillas + sardines + cabbage slaw + chipotle crema + lime. Sounds weird, tastes amazing.🥔 SPANISH-STYLE POTATOES:Roasted potatoes topped with sardines, piquillo peppers, and a sherry vinegar drizzle.🐟 SPREADS & DIPSSardine pâté: Blend sardines + cream cheese or Greek yogurt + lemon juice + Dijon + dill. Great for crackers. • Rillettes: Mash sardines with soft butter, shallot, lemon, parsley. Spread on baguette.✨ PRO TIPS FOR SARDINES1. Cut the fishy vibe: Acid is your friend — lemon, vinegar, tomatoes all mellow it out.2. BONE-IN VS BONELESS:Bones are edible + calcium-rich. Mash them up and you won’t notice. If you’re squeamish, buy boneless.3. OIL VS WATER VS TOMATO SAUCE: Use oil-packed for flavor, water-packed if you want to control fat, tomato-packed if you want built-in sauce.ℹ️ BUT if you're anything like me you will just eat them right out of the can LOLEither late or make yourself a nice fat sandwich with it 🥪I like mine with Mayo , a Dijon mustard that's very horseradish forward with some sort of crispy crunchy lettuce(usually iceberg)*If you really want to elevate it, add bacon 🥓 (Sounds funny BUT it really works) TRUST ME !@AnaZFoodZandFriendZ#InformationResearchedAndFormattedByAnaSantos ⭐

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great

The first thing I did after I opened up the can was to take a good whiff to make sure if there were any fishy odors coming out. But much to my delight, there was none. I only smelled a little bit of the tomato sauce. Two thumbs up!Next thing I tested was, of course, the first bite. Yes, there was some fish taste. But it's a fish, so obviously, that was to be expected. However, it wasn't a very potent fishy taste, and it was on the small side at that too. I couldn't taste a lot of the tomato sauce; just a little. However, the sauce still made the bite flavorful. There was a little bit of oil in the can. I'm not sure if it was olive oil or the fish oil, but it didn't matter all that much. The tomato sauce actually looked and tasted like how a tomato sauce should look and taste like. Way different compared to the King Oscar's zesty tomato canned fish. The fish was not salty, at least to me. It was perfect. The texture of the fish was meaty, but not coarse (like bumblebee canned tunas). I think it was due to the way it was canned. The fish were probably smoked and dried a bit before being canned with the tomato sauce. It gives a meaty and firm texture. Awesome! You can feel the bones too, but only on the first bites. I prefer the fish this way. Definitely better in texture compared to crown princes skinless and boneless canned fish. The last thing I checked was the after-taste. Yes, I still had a little bit of the fish taste and a little bit of the tomato sauce in my mouth. However, after doing the "smell-your-own-breath" test, I could not smell any fishy odors coming out of my mouth. I think the after-taste was probably from the small amount of oils. It disappeared shortly after taking two small sips of wine, so I was pleasantly surprised.Overall, the product is a very, very low odorous-inducing canned fish. And yet, the taste and texture are great. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in eating canned fish for the omega 3s, but without the rancid and fishy odors.I will definitely be ordering more in the near future.
