Btw - it is easier to walk in these when using a walking stick or something similar. Also, I do have rocks just below the surface in certain areas, so working carefully around the rocks I hit worked well enough - vs trying to force the spikes down. The product doesn't seem to be made for forceful stomping in areas where it might hit a rock Seems like a couple things could happen... 1) it could cause an injury or fall or 2) it might break the product. They wash up and store very easily. They worked really well for our needs. It really depends how much top soil you have in that bare spot. If there's not enough, you might want to add some fill to it before aerating. If there's enough soil depth, then aerating with these will be fine for reseeding in existing lawn or in bare spots. Be sure that you've dethatched any of the bare spots so that you're seeding in soil and not on dead grass (thatch) **Q: Do you have to walk slow with these on? Could you use while mowing?** A: I used them while push mowing few times, worked ok for most part. More movement, more have to tighten straps. Only trouble I had was squirrels drugged in walnuts and was worked into the ground underneath the surface. Shoe spike pulled nut out of ground, I didn't realize that and made walking difficult. Sadly, no instructions were included and one spike was a flathead. It was a helluva workout trying to keep it securely latched because the fabric slips and there isn’t a harness to keep both straps from loosening from the tension created when pulling it out of the ground. The extra strap has to be tucked and slightly slows the entire loosening process.
