I put one pod in a glass mason jar filled with water. The jar has measuring lines on side. I use 1/4 of jar at a time. According to directions, one pod for 40 gallons. My system makes 10 gallon servings. Still much for my 5 gallon tank, but better on wallet and environment. Very effective at this proportion. **Q: what is the scent? Is it over poewering or lightly scented?** A: A "fresh scent" without over powering. Great scent to accommodate with any holding tank **Q: Am i suppose to drop one in when it is full and right before I dump the waste or drop one in as the waste is building or when it's empty?** A: Dump a new packet into the tank, with a little water, immediately after you empty it.
