Review: This Ukrainian taste approves! - Best Buckwheat yet I have found. My family came from Odesa by the beach, Ukraine. We ate a lot of Kasha, which is buckwheat groats- not a wheat at all. No gluten, tons of fiber vitamins am=nd minerals, nutty, earthy flavor. It is great with Farfalle pasta- bowties. You can do so much with Kasha. Its a 3 meal a day thing. Its not easy to find in some cities. Impossible in Anchorage were I live. Easier to find an albino black bear. It was much cleaner than popular Russian brand that I got that always needed cleaning, tasted musty, buckwheat keeps for a long time if dry stored. Its yummy . This is excellent Kasha. It is very clean. You need not wash it! Nothing comes off of it. There are no directions in Russian to wash it. I tried making it in a rice cooker twice- too mushy unless substituting for oatmeal. Its a superfood.

**Q: Does anybody know why Anthony's buckwheat is included in California’s Proposition 65?**
A: Prop 65 applies to anything that may contain a chemical (and California lists hundreds of supposedly cancer-causing or cancer-contributing chemicals in their warning list) that is exposed during the growing, manufacturing, processing, irrigating, packaging, labeling, and transporting of a product.  So, while Anthony's is organic and supposedly doesn't use harmful chemicals in the growing of its buckwheat, chemicals on the Prop 65 list may (and I emphasize "may") come in contact with the buckwheat.  It could be a chemical in the air surrounding the buckwheat growing fields, it could be a chemical in the ink of the 5 lb bag, it could be fumes and exhaust from the vehicles that transport the buckwheat to market, or it could be chemicals in the water or equipment used to process the groats for packaging.  Anthony's, like nearly every other business in California, includes the Prop 65 warning on its bags to be on the safe side and greatly reduce its chances of a frivolous lawsuit or investigation from the State.  Kind of like that silly tag that's attached to mattresses and pillows.

**Q: Will these groats sprout?**
A: yes, raw buckwheat groats will sprout. (buckwheat which has been toasted will not.) I have soaked mine overnight and up to a day, then rinsed well, and they will sprout just fine after a couple of days, depending on the temperature.

**Q: Can I plant these in my garden?**
A: Yes. I soak them and then rinse twice a day till they sprout and use the water for potted plants. A few grains were washed off into the pot by accident, and grew into full size plants quite quickly, bloomed and produced new buckwheat groats...

**Q: Is it good for hotmeal?**
A: Hi Felipe, Yes Buckwheat is great as a substitute for oatmeal or as a "hotmeal". You can add fruit or nuts to it and enjoy it in the same way as any hot cereal. If you add spices or herbs to it, you can enjoy it as a side dish just like rice.
