For example, the clear coat on my cabinets was not applied smoothly, there were some areas where you could see some drip spots, and the paint made these spots more noticeable. After realizing this, I resulted to sanding the cabinets more thoroughly to ensure no blemishes would be seen. This paint dries very quickly. I painted my bathroom vanity in only a couple of hours- I let the first coat of paint dry for an hour before applying another coat. I got quotes from several contractors for this job with costs ranging from $3,000 to $6000. Finally, I decided to do it myself, and it was the best decision I ever made. I took on this project because when I moved into this unit, the cabinets were damaged with stains and grease and I could not get it clean. Yes, it is necessary to sand before applying Nuvo, as this will help to remove any dirt and oils present on the existing finish, as well as increase the adhesion to your cabinets. Thoroughly sand all of your cabinet surfaces, whether it be wood, laminate, vinyl, or a painted surface. You do not have to remove your existing finish, just sand with a #300 grit sandpaper until all of your surfaces are deglossed. If you have wood cabinets then follow your wood’s grain with your sanding motions and avoid sanding in a circular fashion. If you have an electric palm sander then follow your woods grain as well. Be sure to sand extra well around your door handles and stove because of the potential oils and dirt located in these areas. For applications on an existing high gloss finish, it is optimal to apply a liquid deglosser to your finish first and then use the #300 grit sandpaper to lightly scuff up the surface. When you are done sanding, wipe up all of the sanding dust with a standard window cleaner since the alcohol and ammonia won’t leave a residue.
