## Questions & Answers

**Q: The hardware at the end of the shaft opposite the handle keeps coming off. How can I remedy that happening?**
A: That has never happened with mine. The hardware shaft opposite the handle is only an open end to the handle that is used to turn to crush the ice. I really like this product and have not had any problem or defects.

**Q: how to you clean it to prevent it from rusting?**
A: Food grade silicone lubricant like super lube for automatic ice makers prevents rusting aerosol spray wipe away excess lasts and lasts.

**Q: Do you have to use ice cubes of a certain size? We have what I'd say are "regular" size ice cube trays. Do they need to be smaller?**
A: Any size ice cubes. I don't need the one I bought anymore, I will sell it to you for 1/2 of what Amzon wants for this. It's like new! -Elaine btr2oz@gmail.com

**Q: How do get base to hold? Handle doesn't do it!**
A: Smooth surface imperative, wet bottom of rubber base slightly as you move the handle back and forth, you will feel it sucking down onto the counter, push handle all the way down and start crushing...I think it's great

Great value when weighed against the other options

We bought the Victorio ice crusher last summer and my wife uses it a few times a day, every day (she is always walking around with a large cup of crushed ice). We didn’t want to deal with an electric grinder and after reading reviews decided on this one. It is well made, small, simple, and easy to use and clean. You can get crushers that cost less (but are cheap/missing features/difficult to use) or cost more (but are harder to keep clean/take up far more room/are more complex and have more things that can go wrong). This one is in the middle price-wise but has some nice features and a great warranty.A couple things to keep in mind from comments I’ve read in other reviews:1. Don’t buy it if you are going to complain that it is hard to turn. You are driving metal blades through ice and it isn’t electric. My kids and wife both use it without any issues. Sometimes you may find it easier to reverse the direction to rearrange the cubes and then crank thru it again.2. Yes it’s kind of loud. You are crushing ice in a small container that is not surrounded by masses of sound deadening materials. No crusher like this will be any quieter.3. I have no idea what kind of water people have who experience problems with slime, rust, and “awful brownish-black little pieces of crap mixed into the ice fragments,” Ours is wet at least twice a day from using it and my wife just sets it on the counter to dry and we’ve never seen anything like that. I’ve opened it up and it’s just white plastic, the still shiny stainless steel rod and teeth, and a little bit of discoloration around the four screws holding it together. Nothing black or gunky – if you have that, it’s coming from your water or the humidity in your house (or gremlins or your kids tried other grinding experiments in it). If the four screws holding it together are rusting so badly that it is going through the entire unit, maybe the surrounding air is too humid and salty to use this.4. Either check the screw on the end or don’t crank it counterclockwise more than occasionally, especially when you first get it. The blades are all held together with a long screw that can come undone and it’s a bit of a pain to put back together. Ours came unscrewed when we first used it but now that we know about that it hasn’t happened since. The constant clockwise turning against the pressure of the ice tightens it up more over time. If it ever happens again, I’ll use Loctite like another commenter suggested.5. Don’t buy a crusher without a suction cup on the bottom. Even with the rubber on the bottom, it moves around if you don’t use the suction lever. I can’t imagine using one of the crushers with just a hard plastic bottom. So… yes it can be a bit tough to turn sometimes, especially if you have very hard (cold) ice like we do, and yes it may come apart if you spin it backwards a lot, but it’s small and simple and has a five year warranty. After that time, you can buy a new one if you need to and it ends up costing you less than a cup of coffee per year of use. I’m mostly happy because my wife stopped crushing ice by putting it in plastic bags and smacking it with a meat hammer all the time. We went thru a lot of bags and this is quieter and quicker. I waited a few months to write the review to make sure we didn’t have the same problems those giving one star noted, and then another half year because I never got around to it but that just gave us more time and hundreds of extra opportunities to evaluate the crusher. I could give it fewer stars because it came apart on us once but it wasn’t that big a deal and I just don’t get people who complained and threw it away. Put it back together or contact the company – if you look at the reviews it seems like they even reach out to the lazy complainers but by then it’s probably too late. This thing isn’t fifty or a hundred bucks, it’s a great value compared to the cheaply made more inexpensive models and the more expensive fancier/gimmicky or electric ones.

    Works well for its purpose!!

This item is small and crushes about 1.5 to two cups of ice per filling. The canister holds approximately 42 oz of crushes ice. This is a crank model as stated. The appliance affixes to the counter with a suction cup for stability. After several uses the suction cup only works if you dampen the counter with water. You fill the top reservoir that houses the blades and crank with about 1 cup to 1.5 cups uncrushed ice cubes. Then you begin turning the crank. (similar to roll up car windows.) The top crushes component merely sits atop the bottom resevoir and does not attach to it. This makes cranking more difficult because the top lifts off and slides around from the force of the cranking. Some strength is needed to crank it. The crushed ice is not uniform or fine like a snow cone but still small enough chunks. I was unprepared for the degree of cranking difficulty, need to balance top on bottom and small sized cube receptical. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to fill 2. 32oz glasses with crushes ice. All in all it is a good value for the money and I use it every day. I let it air dry in my sink drying rack. I've only had it a couple of weeks and already the suction bottom isn't working well. Since the top does not securely attach to the bottom, I believe the cranking force will crack the plastic as time goes on. I use it every day sometimes several times a day and so far so good.

I had something like this back in the day and this little device delives the same, slivery ice that I remember all so easily and all so simply. I love you, crushed ice. Thanks, Victorio for providing this simple and sturdy gadget that makes it fast and furiously. The contruction at first glance doesn't seem sturdy, but it will fool you. I have those gargantuan ice cubes that look like giant half moons, and this ice machine pulverizes them with ease and little effort. Cranking is just about as easy for me as it would be for a toddler turn-wise, and the suction cup base adheres to my granite countertop even tough they aren't the really nice super smooth kind.I sort of waited to go through the whole skin my knuckles routine everyone mentions, but it just DID NOT HAPPEN. Then again, I am a woman and maybe I a) do not turn with the same ferocity and b) don't have huge hands. But, I will tell you this: I have hemiplegia in the arm I use to crank the ice with (meaning slightly paralyzed) and I can STILL surn that crank and get my icy slivery without pain or force.I use this machine every day, and I use it only for me. I don't use it for crowds (meaning the whole family or parties). I crank out, say, two to three glasses worth of crushed ice for myself every day (water glass sized), and no problems. I simply leave it on the counter, lid up, off base on a paper towel to dry, base down separate on another paper towel and so far no rusting. It is my little luxury. If things go rusty or breaky I will let you know asap. But right not, bar none, even my under counter ice maker cannot make ice a nice as this little machine. Just sayin'.
