Okay for a cheap Strat, but better single coil guitars out there for the money

I bought this guitar in white, left-handed. I changed the white pick guard to a black one, and the contrasting black and white look fantastic. The body, or finish at least, is cracked on the top cutout where the neck joins. It should only be a cosmetic problem for now. The tone and volume knobs are cheap and dirty looking. Otherwise the construction and materials feel fine. The neck feels okay but has a couple places that could do with a bit more sanding and smoothing. Plan on taking off the awful feeling factory strings and cleaning the fretboard straight away. The strings unsurprisingly were a mile off the neck. No problem except that the string tree for the G and D strings gets in the way of turning the truss rod. It more finagling than I would like, but I got the action set acceptably and adjusted the intonation closely enough. Now that I've got it set up fairly well, it sounds fine. The Strat-style single coils are brittle with loads of treble. This is the only Fender-style guitar I have, so I can't say how it compares, but it sounds fine for the style of guitar it is. If you have any interest in staying in tune forget about ever using the tremolo arm.In the very cheap guitar category this is a decent choice if you have to get a lefty. If not, there are better options for about the same price. If you want a single-coil sound that is easier to set up, stays in tune better, and doesn't have the annoying through-body strings, go with the Epiphone Les Paul Special I P-90 (http://www.amazon.com/Epiphone-Special-Electric-Guitar-Cherry/dp/B006H5119Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405963728&sr=8-1&keywords=epiphone+les+paul+special+p90). I bought one and set it up for my right-hand playing friend. It took one turn on the truss rod, lowering the bridge a tiny bit, and a tiny adjustment on the tail piece to get it intonated and set up like a dream.

I've been playing for almost 50 years, all styles, and have owned many great guitars. About 12 years ago I stopped playing due to rheumatoid arthritis, but have recently been able to pick it up again, so I ordered this Legacy "Strat". I could not be happier with the purchase. When delivered, I was just blown away by the fit, finish, and sheer heft of this guitar. This is no cheap, lightweight balsawood imitation. The alderwood used on the body spells one thing, loud and clear, ... s-u-s-t-a-i-n. The pickups are surprisingly good too (though I am going to replace the bridge pickup with a humbucker, sacrilege, I know....), the tuners aren't bad, the switching solid, and the neck is, well, my favorite part of the guitar. After it arrived, I immediately put on a set of Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Lights (.08 & up), checked the intonation (which was surprisingly spot on), and made some minor adjustments to the bridge (which, as another poster wrote, may be a weak spot on this beauty). I also spent an hour carefully (using a Dremel tool) smoothing the fret ends on both sides of the neck. They were a bit rough, on an otherwise silky neck. Once done, I'd put the neck up against any factory Fender. It feels like a great "Strat" neck should feel. When called upon (and with the right switching, amp, and pedals), this guitar will sing, strut, chicken-pick, crunch, Jeff Beck smooth (with the acceptable tremolo bar), or "Stevie Ray scream". It's what one would expect from a $500+ factory Fender Strat, but certainly not from a $99 knockoff! ACK! Best buy I've ever made. Bottom line, this is no little kid's guitar. It's a heavyweight player (both in weight and sound), that will satisfy your every musical whim, and then some. Buy one, before they're all gone, or you'll be sorry.

    Exceeds Expectations!

I purchased this guitar with one idea in mind: Heavy Modification. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of guitar when it arrived. For slightly over 100 bucks I got a lefty strat style guitar with high quality fit and finish...and an excellent starting point for completing my vision. The guitar stays in tune, and has solid innards as well. Immediately the stock pickups were traded for a lace sensors value pack. By simply doing that the guitar morphed into an Standard Strat in terms of sound quality. Seriously. More mods to come...Bottom line is if you want a lefty guitar to either a) learn to play on or b) modify, this is the one to buy! For the price, the quality cannot be beat. Very impressed with Legacy!
