It is fairly solidly constructed to last and the electronic components have some self protecting features built in. Depending on the age of the child there is some initial assembly that may require an adult. For what's included I think it is good value. The work book is well written and the projects are strait forward to wire and set up but a bit scant on explanation of the principles it is trying to show. I think the value will be in trying to do her own experiments without the instructions.I deducted one star because one of the LED lights isn't working right out of the box. I will contact the company and see if they will send me a replacement.
