There are so many of both types available and the value of reading reviews is that I’m beginning to learn what I should stay away from. I bought this one because I needed to round out an order and it was only a couple of bucks so if I didn’t like it I could use it for something else.As far as the hook type of mount it seems they fall into one of two broad categories … plastic or metal. The plastic ones seem to have a lot of gimmicks but most of them appear to be made of several pieces and experience has taught me that the more pieces and parts the more things can go wrong. Of the metal type it seems there are two similar styles. One is flat and the other, like this one, has upturned ends. I don’t want to see my instruments come tumbling down to the floor so I opted for the style with the upturned ends.I like that it is very sturdy and the part that attaches to the wall is solid despite being all plastic. The hooks are attached to it by some sort of rivet. The hooks are covered with a dense rubber material that doesn’t scratch. It is not the porous kind of foam rubber that can interact with the wood finish on some instruments and cause it to discolor. There are little plastic caps on the ends of the hooks. The unit comes in a little baggie with two screws and two plastic wall anchors.Maybe the thing that concerns me the most is the hooks adjust by swiveling outward. If you have a very small instrument like a ukulele that could twist sideways it could conceivably slip between the hooks. Likewise if your instrument is heavy it could put enough outward pressure on the hooks to let the instrument slide through. Keep in mind this is a very low-end hanger, obviously not meant to hold a rare classic instrument.By the way, what about using a stand instead of a wall hook? A couple of reasons come to mind. One is the thought of the dogs knocking it over or the cats using the instrument as a scratching post. The other major reason is I have yet to find a stand that is both attractive and versatile enough to hold anything from a banjo to a balalaika. The wall hook type pretty much can hold any stringed instrument. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for price, DON'T USE PROVIDED SCREWS *by D***L on Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2014* The design on these is pretty simple, how they can adapt to any instrument neck width and keep it because the gravity of the instrument pulls the arms down into the proper shape. The only annoying part is that the end where it sticks out is pretty narrow, so you need to turn the necks sideways to get them in, then turn them to face out. Could probably be solved if you were willing to bend the bars a little bit.Seems surprisingly sturdy for being mounted into plastic, I'm not sure how much weight I'd trust on it though, we'll see.Don't use the supplied screws, they are total junk. I made a pilot hole and everything, but I got the screw in half-way and one half just fell off.... took me 10 minutes to get the other end out. Use some real heavy duty screws.Also keep in mind if you plan to fit this onto a stabilized bar, like a piece of wood that's mounted into your wall properly, get something larger than a standard 2x4, because this won't fit vertically on it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great mount, but check the seller *by D***2 on Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2014* I bought one of these for my acoustic guitar from seller DisplayGifts and thought it was a great product. Held up great, looked fine, and was super cheap. I decided to buy another one for my electric guitar, but I didn't pay attention to who the seller was. I now see that I bought from MusicInc2013. The mount that arrived today is almost the same. It has the same base and same padded prongs, but it doesn't have the same plastic caps at the end of the prongs. It's a minor aesthetic difference, but if I end up putting my mounts right next to each other, it will be noticeable. The bigger issue with buying from MusicInc2013 is that they didn't include any screws or drywall anchors! I know I have some around, but now I'll have to dig through my mess of a garage to find them. If I buy again, I'll make sure to buy from DisplayGifts.I am not in any way associated with any sellers.
