## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can anyone recommend a good amp to power 4 of these speakers**
A: The sensitivity on these speakers are only 85.5 dB and are 100 watts. You definitely need an amp with some power to push 4 of them. If you use these as stereo speakers I recommend a Sherwood RX5502 or look for an older Pioneer VSX series made in the 90's or any Pioneer SX series amps on EBay. SX may cost more but VSX is great stuff. Not the new VSX crap. Get the old stuff cause they have bigger transformers and power supplies and they are true solid state amps. No digital gizmos to screw up the sound. The VSX is a surround sound amp BUT they have stereo connections for 4 separate speakers and you can A/B them. The EQ on those amps are pretty good as well.

**Q: It is possible to use with my laptop? I didnt see any 3.5 mm connector. What do I have to do?**
A: Is your 3.5 mm connector stereo?, even if it is I'm guessing there are inexpensive adapters (probably @ Radio Shack) that will convert a 3.5 mm plug to either 2 wire (mono) or 4 wire (stereo). Pay attention to wire polarities (+ & -) as traditional 2 wire speakers connections are + & - , even if the wires are connected backwards the speakers will still work-- result you will be driving them backwards & they will not sound as clear. Solution, just reverse the wires. Good luck

**Q: Will these survive being pressure-washed (assuming the mounting bracket is strong enough)?**
A: I gotta' ask...WHY would you pressure wash these or any other speakers???

**Q: if i want to mount them on my bedroom ceiling how would i power them?**
A: Stereo speakers don't need a power supply. You simply connect them to your stereo system/receiver via speaker wires.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Work well in a portable backyard theater setup.
*by T***7 on October 28, 2014*

I purchased 3 sets of these of these speakers to set up a 5.1 channel portable backyard theater sound system. For my use they are perfectly adequate and at the price offered, allowed me to set up 5.1 channel system rather than a more traditional 2.1 system. I have the speakers mounted on home built stands based on 2x2x36" metal fence posts mounted to 8x8x2" paver bricks, which allows for a good balance of stability vs portability/easy storage. The speakers are connected to a Sony STR-DH740 receiver with 14 GA low voltage outdoor wire and inexpensive banana plugs. The low end is supplemented with a BIC PL-200 subwoofer. Given the low price of these speakers, I am satisfied. The sound is more than adequate for my intended purpose and they can reach higher than comfortable listening volume without objectionable distortion. The spring loaded wire connectors are cheaper than average and require some finesse to hold the admittedly larger than recommended 14 GA wire. If the speaker is moved relative to the wire, it is likely that they would become disconnected. In an attempt to possibly change the wire connectors to something better, I disassembled one of the speakers only to find that the existing terminal is soldered on and epoxied into place. Changing it out would require cutting the internal driver leads and modification to the speaker housing. For the time being I'll leave them as they are and see how the current connections hold up. Internally, the speakers leave a bit to be desired. There is no crossover to speak of. One capacitor is used as a rudimentary crossover between the tweeter and 2 1/2" driver, while the 4" driver is simply wired in parallel with the other 2 drivers. This wiring likely contributes to the relatively high impedance of these speakers. Driver quality is about what one would expect from speakers at this price point. I was surprised and pleased to see a bit of fiber fill in the speaker housing. As I store these speakers out of the elements when not in use, I can't comment on how well they handle the weather, but they do seem relatively well sealed against the elements. For regular, daily usage, I would probably step up to the Yamaha's at roughly twice the price. For my occasional usage, however, they are more than adequate.
