Rather than dig into the dash and try and find a way to change out the cable, I thought I should first try and adapter. This little adapter converts the male 30 pin iPhone connector into a micro B USB male connector. The quality of this part is a bit iffy, with the micro B connector coming out at bit of an angle on all three. But the 30 pin iPhone connector worked just fine. I wasn't brave enough to try and jam the somewhat angled micro B USB male connector directly into my phone, so I added a micro B USB male to USB A female adapter as well. Now I have a regular USB port, to which I connected my phone's regular cable and voila, it connected to my stereo and charges just fine. Then I removed the phone cable and plugged in a USB flash drive and the stereo read that and played music from it. So, I am a happy camper. I have a home stereo with an iPhone dock, so I might try one of the other 2 for that. But for the price, this was just what I needed. If you plan to plug and unplug this frequently, you probably should not buy it, since I am not sure it would survive more than a few cycles before breaking. But if, like me, you want to semi-permanently change a mostly useless male 30 pin iPhone connector into something useful, then this may be the part for you.
