Outside of materials being different, and the overall concept having some major differences, they are similar in what they are designed to do. However, the folding and the leather will make the Belroy start out as a thicker wallet. Adding cards and cash to it will just make it that much thicker. The basics starts out thin with materials and once you add cards to it, it just increases in thickness incrementally. Price is also a significant difference between the two. I think for an everyday wallet, and the intention of staying as slim as possible, the basics wins in all categories. I've had the Ridge, Bi-folds, as well as other minimalist wallets and this has been the best for my needs. I carry two CC that I use regularly and my third is the ATM card which I don't use much. I have 4 additional cards plus my driver's license and they all fit well. A little snug but I'm sure it will loosen up with time. The cash pocket is great. I can put an additional 5 bills comfortably. For me this wallet is light and perfect for my set up. I would recommend. 6 months update - only draw back so far is that it tends to peel back the credit card film and damages them after constant use.
