Traditional mascaras use different oxidation states of iron oxides (black, red, and yellow with the red and yellow being only used in the brown shade). In carbon black the black iron oxide pigment is replaced with a carbon compound that has a much deeper more obsidian appearance. Black iron oxides are naturally occurring minerals and vary on the shade their "blackness" where the carbon black is much more consistently deep black. **Q: Has anyone used the black/brown color? Is it a deep brown color or lighter brown?** A: I have bought this many times . It is dark and not to much difference then the black one.
