## Description

Miller Planispheres by Datalizer are the premiere star finder. Durable plastic disks and accurate cartography with instructions right on the back. Choose the correct product / model according to the latitude where you will be using the product. (Example: MPL40 is for latitudes 35N-45N.) Don't worry if you are right on one division latitudes - either model above or below will work fine. Special Note: Having the right tools for observing is important. A planisphere is essential. This one is made with heavy duty plastic (never accept cardboard - a few outings in the nighttime dew will ruin it). Just dial the date and time and you'll see what's in the sky for that moment. Rotate the time dial to simulate sky motion... like having a personal planetarium. Pick your favorite constellation, put it on the eastern horizon to determine the date and time to begin seeing it.

A: Determine the latitude of your location. Purchase the planisphere that best covers your region of the sky. For example, I would buy that 40-degree one if I lived in New Your City, but the 30-degree one if I lived in Miami.

**Q: I can’t tell from the online image, but does it have a “cross” on top that represents the zenith point ?**
A: Hi Mike,
Zenith is simply the point highest in the sky for any observer. From your backyard, it is straight up (90 degrees from any horizon). If you pointed a green laser at that point on a clear night for several hours, a variety of stars would move by that point.
On the planisphere, zenith is the point in the center of the "sky window". As you swing the stars through that window with the outer dial, the zenith point is always centered in the window, while the stars that lie near it change. So to get directly at your question, no "cross" can possibly represent zenith on a planisphere.
I suppose you could create an immovable cross in the middle of the sky window by taping Saran wrap over the window, and marking the center spot with a permanent marker.

I had one of these as a kid, a gift from an elementary school teacher. It was a great tool. I was able to locate and memorize just about all the constellations. My old chart is long gone but this one makes a good replacement.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ INCLUDES MANY MESSIER OBJECTS!

I am very satisfied with this planisphere. I have been using another planisphere (almost equally good) for many years but it lacked Messier Objects. With my grand daughter's birthday approaching, I ordered this planisphere for it's apparent quality. On the off-chance that it might include Messier Objects (this feature was not mentioned, so it was a gamble) I ordered a second one for myself. Much to my satisfaction, I was pleased to find that it DOES show many Messier Objects (not all, not M1), making it far superior to my earlier unit. By the way, if you are not already familiar with how planispheres are used, it is well worth it to take some time and get familiar with them. Once you are familiar, they are a snap to use and a lot of fun for planning a productive evening's veiwing ahead of time. --And this planisphere is a very good choice. (Now I would like to see a planisphere for Radio Sources).
