The springs that held both the mounting clamp and the phone clamp were extremely strong and seemed as if they would have been very durable.The all metal construction seemed as if it would have provided for a durable long life (and very well may have). However it seemed to have some flaws in the materials chosen for the execution of the construction. From what I can remember without any longer having the item in-hand was that there was a set screw holding the collet ring in place. The same collet which you can see in the picture with the wing nut set screw. The wing nut set screw which allows you to lock the ball at any angle you choose worked just fine. It's a smaller set screw which actually holds the collet that seemed to be the problem. It was as if the screw or possibly the collet itself didn't quite seat correctly and allowed for a bit of "slop". Even this I would have tried to fix or live with and quite frankly it may have wound up being a total non- issue.My issue was with the mismatched threads connecting the swivel ball to the phone clip itself. It appeared as if the male adapter sticking out of and attached to the swivel ball had coarse threads. The female adapter insert in the clip itself seemed to have machine threads but I cannot be positive of that hypothesis. Whether they were just two different thread diameter sizes because of a mistake at the manufacture or if the same thing caused the mismatching of machine vs. coarse threads....bottom line is that you couldn't get more than the first or second thread seated into the female adapter and then it wouldn't screw in any further.There was also a plastic spinning lock ring. I'm not sure if that were meant to remedy this design flaw or if it (quite possibly) had a legitimate purpose to lock the pieces together even with correct threads in use.My final problem came before I realized that the threads didn't match and tried to apply a little force to screw them together. The threaded male end which sticks out of the ball to accept the clip detached quite easily leaving the male end in the female adapter of the phone clip and an empty hole in the ball. The male adapter sticking out of the ball seems to rely upon a doweled shaft design if I am using that correctly. In other words it appears as if the bottom of that male adapter is basically notched to a slightly less than cylindrical shape and pressed into a cylindrical hole drilled in the ball which should hold it in place. I would imagine the connection made properly would be more than adequate for this type of application so I am not sure why the connection on mine seemed to fail under a slight amount of stress.Overall if everything would have screwed together nicely out of the box I think this could have been a great piece. If I hadn't ordered two separate mounts at the same time to see which worked best for my application I would have most likely just asked for a replacement vs. returning. Quite honestly I may re-order one in the future because I can already think of some places that this would be more useful than my current mount.If I do re-order I will do so knowing that some reinforcements may need to be made if the unit arrives as before, but for the price of the item and what it could be it would be worth my time. ### ⭐⭐ DISAPPOINTED *by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2015* Disappointed, and somewhat annoyed. Had it not been for Amazon's easy return system, my review would have included much spicier adjectives. Its almost like I received something a lot different that the item marveled about in the reviews but in checking the invoice and returning to A.com, it is the very item so positively talked about in the reviews. The first thing I checked upon receipt was the clip that holds the phone. (There was so many reviews that graded the clip to dash part but not many/any that discussed the phone clip). After inserting my S4 into the clip (BARELY WIDE ENOUGH), I shook it mildly, maybe trying to simulate hitting a pot-hole, and the phone popped out. Tried this maneuver several times with same results. So I thought maybe I could just add a rubber band and make this problem a lot smaller. Then, I tried to assemble the 2 pieces that came in the box; dash clip mech and phone clip mech and the threads on each item do not match. I examined the threads under a magnifying lamp; they looked ok. Several of us tried to mate the 2 items, screwing one into the other. . . . .no way. The screw and threaded hole DID NOT MATCH. (like trying to screw a 12 threads per inch screw into a hole tapped for 8 threads per inch) So by then I put it back in the box and proceeded to see how difficult returning the item would be. Disappointing. . . . .I keep wondering about 2 things (the 2 problems). Why build a clip so small that it has to widen to its maximum width to accept the phone? If this clip had of been made larger, I'm certain it would have made its operation much more efficient. 2) This one blows my mind. How can so many of these be sold with the correct screw and the manufacturer change the threads on just one; the one I purchase. Anyway, I could only think of the one word. . . .disappointing. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid and Versatile. *by H***W on Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2014* I just received this and tested it out. I'm very happy with it.The clamp and ball mount are slightly bigger than I thought, constructed of metal and very solid.It says its for iPhone, but the clip works well on my Samsung Galaxy G2 phone.The clip attaches to the ball mount via a standard tripod screw. So you can take the clip off and use it on some other tripod if you want. It works great on my Gorilla Pod, and I finally have a decent way to mount my phone on a tripod.You could also use the clip/ball mount alone with any camera that uses a standard tripod screw.I have only 2 very minor complaints.1. The thumbscrew that locks the ball mount position is a bit small and close to the clip handle, making it hard to tighten/loosen.2. The pads that grip the phone are sufficient, but would be better if they were a couple centimeters wider.But on the whole, this product is better than I expected.
