This really ties it all together - more so than most would believe. The unit itself is of solid quality, with an unblemished bright chrome finish that feels of sufficient thickness - not a flash plating. The escutcheon fits the shower arm tightly - it's outside diameter is slightly smaller than a standard escutcheon that one might purchase separately - it also has a longer profile. It can be swapped with an aftermarket, however in our case, it further tied in the look and feel of the faucet, and smaller putter diameter was not an issue as we were careful to trim our tile in closely. It's not all cosmetic - the extra reach puts the shower head at a much more comfortable spot within the shower, and truly aids in keeping the stray spray on the right side of the curtain.
