Review: Great stuff! Even better with sparkling lemon or lime water! - It took mixing a few drinks to get it right for me (testing wasn't exactly a chore...). Once I got the ratio right I have been very pleased. Not overly sweet, with a nice citrus hint to the bitterness. It doesn't take much and seems pretty concentrated. I like London dry gins so perhaps the sodium bicarbonate thats used in club soda made that mixer taste "off" to me when used with tonic syrup. I prefer adding sparking water. Lemon or lime flavored is even better. Arrowhead and Perrier brands that I use are just water, Co2 (for carbonation) and natural flavors. No calories, artificial stuff or high fructose corn syrup makes it about the healthiest G&T you can mix! LOL If you want to try it, start with 2-3 spoonfuls of El Guapo in an ice filled glass, 1.5 oz gin (or vodka if you must), then top up the glass with sparkling water and a lime wedge, stir well and enjoy. Cheers!
Review: A bit expensive but takes your gin to a whole new level - I just started experimenting with syrups and I really like the flavor of El Guapo. It makes for a very original and refreshing gin. It's pricey, but a little goes a long way and it definitively beats most commercial tonic waters out there.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it taste bitter?**
A: Yes. Our tonic contains cinchona bark, which is bitter.

**Q: Is it gluten free?**
A: Unfortunately there is nothing on he labeling that indicates whether it is, or is not, gluten free. Regardless, i enjoy this tonic very much, and it has afforded me a whole new gin (or vodka) experience that is much improved from the traditional store bought tonic water. I highly recommend it!

**Q: Is this syrup less sweet than schweppe's bottled tonic? i think most tonic in bottles is too sweet. how does this compare with jack rudy's sweetness?**
A: The beauty of the Syrup is you can control the sweetness based on your preference. This is very complex and has 4 types of citrus to balance the sweet with acidity. In terms of versus JR per serving size ours has less sugar. Cheers!

**Q: Does this syrup equal the same quinine as store bought? (About 80mg per liter) A family member uses tonic water for leg cramps.**
A: I bought it for similar reasons, wanted the Quinine without High Fructose Corn syrup; it doesn't seem to work. And it certainly doesn't have that quinine "pucker"

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Makes a very different gin & tonic than Americans are used to.
*by A***2 on January 6, 2016*

This provides is a very different flavor than an American gin & tonic. It's sweeter and less bitter, and contains sugar syrup, spices, and 3 kinds of citrus. There's a trick to making gin & tonics with this, and I'm still working it out. Apparently, the old 19th century British colonels in India liked their gin & tonic more sweet than Americans (but then, they were probably using a LOT more quinine, as it was used to ward off and treat malaria). I've been adjusting the recipe on the bottle: The second time I used this, I put less than half an ounce of syrup in the drink (a dollop from the bottle, just enough to color the drink a bit), then use half seltzer water and half tonic water (to boost the quinine), as we like it with a little more bite - it came out very well. Play around with the recipe until you find the right balance for yourself. Buy good gin, don't stint on the amount in the drink. ADDENDUM: It's been some time since I bought this, and I've bought it again (the 16 oz bottle is a good value). My recipe has been adjusted to 3 dollops out of the bottle, seltzer water, and generous gin. It's now as we like it. It's a smoothe drink.
