It will not work with the shorter length. I recommend this conversion highly. It's well designed, good material, makes for better control and safer operation of slide. **Q: Did this fit a 590s?** A: Yes it does. I have the 590s. Found a video on YouTube showing how to uninstall the stock unit and replace with the magpul.
