Not sure if it's the varnish that has been used or where/how they were stored, but I'm a bit hesitant to use these for food. Have tried washing them, to no avail. While they are a little bigger than I'd like -- the bowl portion measures roughly 1 1/4" long x 1" wide -- they work as I wanted. They are pretty, smooth, and without any rough flaws.The handle of each is 1 5/8" long, giving the spoons a length of roughly 3". The handles have a bit of a curve underneath that gives them some elegance. The red color isn't too pronounced. It took a while to receive them because they came from overseas but they made it within the given time frame. They're lightly polished and found that salt and washing dulls the polish but they remain cute but with a more natural look.
